We reached out to local GPs with an invitation to take part in a discussion group, designed to gather valuable insights into how we can strengthen our engagement with primary care professionals.
The aim of these conversations is to better understand GPs’ perspectives, preferences, and potential barriers to involvement, so that we can develop more effective and meaningful ways of connecting with them and encouraging their participation in our research initiatives at the SGVI.

Today we celebrate the incredible women who make up our SGVI team. 💜

From infectious disease consultants to clinical research fellows, research nurses and midwives, and our dedicated project management team including clinical trial managers, project officers, data managers, administrators, and operations leaders, their expertise, commitment, and collaboration drive our work forward every day.

Beyond the clinic and office, our team is constantly pushing research forward: presenting at national and international conferences, conducting home visits to support participants on specific trials, engaging with schools and community groups through outreach programmes and so much more. Their dedication keeps vital research moving and ensures it reaches the people and communities it is designed to serve.

On International Women’s Day, we recognise and thank the women whose passion for research, care, and innovation helps improve health for communities everywhere.

This week, Dr Zeynep Ergenc, Clinical Research Fellow at the Vaccine Institute, will share reflections from her experience serving as a Study Coordinator at our site.

"In addition to the extensive portfolio of adult, paediatric, and maternal vaccine trials conducted at the Vaccine Institute, we also lead and participate in a broad range of non-vaccine clinical studies."

One of our recent studies, “A Multi-centre, Randomized, Double-blind, Placebo-controlled Trial to Evaluate the Neurological Effects of EryDex on Subjects with Ataxia Telangiectasia (NEAT),” has now been completed."

St George’s Vaccine Institute recently collaborated with the University of Leicester and the National Immunisation Schedule Evaluation Consortium (NISEC) on The Grace Project (Generating Resources for Vaccine Research through Active Community Engagement).

The Grace Project brings together pregnant women and those who have been pregnant in recent years to share their perspectives on vaccine research and to review resources created specifically for them. The in-person session pictured above was very insightful.

One key takeaway? Even small design and wording choices in research materials can make a big difference — they can either encourage women to get involved or unintentionally create barriers.

Overall, a great reminder of how important it is to involve communities directly in shaping the research and resources designed to support them.
