Iโ€™m a current Bar Vocational Studies (BVS) LLM student, and as Iโ€™m coming towards the end of my course, I have been reflecting on what I have learned over the last year and how the BVS has prepared me to enter the Bar. ๐ŸŽ‰ As we look ahead to the next academic year, we wanted to reflect on all the amazing things that happened this year!

๐Ÿ† A number of law students took part in both national and international competitions, representing the fantastic calibre of our students, and support from our school. Joshua Oโ€™Connell, Florian Hamel Cooke, Alice Grant, James Hughes won the European Law Moot Court Competition grand final in Luxembourg.

โš–๏ธ We hosted KPUM's annual moot again for Malaysian law students across the UK!

๐Ÿ’ผ The Boss visited our School and put our students to the test to find their next candidate, giving two students work experience and the winner a position in the firm.

๐Ÿ‘ We celebrated Prof Sabrina Germain's promotion to professor, recognising her work in the field of healthcare law, and her impact in academia.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Both through the press and organising events, our academics continued to shape important conversations around AI, maritime law, intellectual property, LGBT+ rights, EU law, climate change, crime and trauma.

2025/2026 was a blast, and we can't wait to see what September brings. ๐Ÿ‘‹

๐Ÿ’ญ "For a long time, I thought that succeeding with a law degree meant following one specific
path. Like many students, I spent a lot of time worrying about work experience, vacation
schemes and whether I was doing enough."

๐Ÿ“š This summer, law graduate Tamanpreet Kaur Luthra completed her internship with the Careers & Employability team at City St Georgeโ€™s, specialising on a project to help law students explore the wide range of career opportunities available to them.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ From auditing careers resources and creating new content, to speaking with alumni who have built successful careers beyond legal practice, Tamanpreet had the chance to see just how many different directions a law degree can take you.

โœ๏ธ While creating resources and speaking with alumni, she found herself learning just as much as the students she was trying to support.

โš–๏ธ She shared, "one of the biggest things I've learnt is that a law degree is so much more than a route into becoming a solicitor or barrister. The skills we've developedโ€”critical thinking,
communication, research, commercial awareness and problem-solvingโ€”are highly valued across a huge range of industries."

๐Ÿ‘ "Hearing the stories of alumni who have taken different career paths really reinforced that
there isn't one definition of success after studying law. Everyone's journey looks different,
and that's something to embrace rather than compare yourself against."
