Jiale Zheng

“Gestural Whispers”is an innovative jewellery design project by Jiale Zheng, aiming to explore the role of body language in emotional expression and psychological healing through the medium of jewellery. The project draws inspiration from her deaf-mute cousin’s gesture-based communication, sparking her interest in sign language and body language. The series includes “Promise Series” and “Nervous Series,” with each piece capturing and conveying rich emotions and messages through unique designs and materials.

Each piece of jewellery is the beginning of a story, symbolising emotions and meanings. She believes they can enable us to perceive the emotions between individuals more profoundly and heal us.

Jinming Liming.li

Jinming Li is an interdisciplinary artist and contemporary craft practitioner whose work explores the intricate connections between individuals, materiality, and the surrounding environment. Over the past five years, Li’s practice has evolved, delving into the dynamic interactions between abstract concepts and tangible materials, and the interplay between the immaterial and the material. This evolution is rooted in a diverse creative journey, from initial endeavours in drawing and photography to the realms of digital media and material art. Li’s visual expressions serve as vital tools for documenting surroundings and seeking creative inspiration, while also enhancing personal understanding of the external world.

Growing up in the digital age, Li has witnessed the rapid development of technology and its profound impact on our perception of reality. The prevalence of the internet, digital media, video games, social media, and virtual reality has shaped public perceptions and diminished direct engagement with the real world. Li’s artistic methodology involves capturing real-world objects and creating digital representations, which are then transformed through computational and algorithmic processing.

Li’s artistic practice emphasises the phenomenon of emergence, where simple entities interact to form complex structures, reflecting the intricate interplay between different elements in their work. Through this interdisciplinary approach, Li’s art transcends media, offering a profound commentary on contemporary society and the evolving relationship between technology and reality.

Matisse Stynes

Graduating from RMIT in Melbourne, Australia in 2022, Matisse Stynes is an emerging artist and jeweller who is completing her master’s degree in jewellery and metal at RCA in London. Matisse creates playful jewellery as well as illustrations on paper – both with a dominant focus on colour. Strongly influenced by popular culture and feminist art, Matisse’s practice explores themes of joy, pleasure and female empowerment.

For the public showcase, Matisse created 12 interchangeable charms titled BITE. The charms feature laser cut aluminium, spray paint and sterling silver findings. Each piece contains 6-7 free moving layers to bring the image to life. The scale of the charms range from 40mm – 80mm. Influenced by the historical impact of red lipstick and its connection to feminism, Matisse’s work explores themes of temptation, indulgence and female empowerment. The red lipped biting mouths in combination with the 7 symbols aim to encourage the wearer, particularly women, to indulge in their pleasures of life and to shamelessly eat the apple.
Inspired by the Biblical Eve, acting upon curiosity and desire is viewed positively within the work.

Emma Guam.emma.cool

Emma Gu (b. 2001) is a multimedia artist specializing in concept-driven wearable pieces and metalwork. Drawing inspiration from everyday experiences and social phenomena, Emma’s practice incorporates daily objects to engage in meaningful dialogue with the audience. Her work focuses on four main themes: Justice, Equality, Identity, and Reality.

In her recent research, Emma explores the key as a social signifier of ownership and power. By de-functioning keys and highlighting their absence in a narrative context, she examines the lack of female authority. This approach allows her to discuss broader social issues and challenge conventional power dynamics through her art.

Filtering: Inner Bloom brooches series is a metaphor for our sensory system acting as a filter. Drawing inspiration from the lotus seedpod, it combines the meaning of purity associated with the lotus. It appeals to treat our senses as a protective barrier, filtering out negativity and retaining positivity. While holes also represent wounds, that can be penetrated by light and allow pain to blossom into flowers.

Mingyue (Luna) He he

Project Title: Ephemeral

Project Statement:
Luna/ Mingyue He (b.2001) is a jewellery artist who graduated from Central Saint Martins with a degree in Jewellery Design. Her work primarily explores the relationship between memory and smoke. “Memory is as fleeting and elusive as smoke, dissipating in an instant and leaving only a vague trace, symbolizing its fragility and transience.” The drifting and fading of smoke mirrors the formation and dissolution of memories. To explore the ephemeral nature of memory and the passage of time, Luna uses smoke as an immaterial medium, utilizing its unique characteristics to create different effects and colors on metal surfaces. In this collection, the objects are seen as boxes, symbolic spaces representing the inner world and hidden memories. Emphasizing the fragmented nature of memories and the need to reassemble and preserve them, she aims to resonate with the audience and evoke their own memories.

Fatima AlQassimi

With over two decades of experience, Fatima AlQassimi stands out as a master jewellery designer and maker, meticulously managing a prestigious workshop in the UAE. Holding a degree in luxury management and currently pursuing a degree in jewellery and metal from the Royal College of Art, Fatima is continually honing her craft and pushing creative boundaries.

Passionate about transforming wax into exquisite metal pieces, Fatima finds immense joy in crafting textures that exude organic and natural elegance. She is not just a designer but a storyteller, infusing each piece with her personal narratives and life stories. Her creations are a testament to her dedication to handcrafting, drawing deep inspiration from the captivating forms and textures found in nature.

Fatima AlQassimi’s work is more than mere adornment—it’s a harmonious blend of expertise, passion, and the timeless beauty of the natural world, all woven together with the threads of her own experiences.

Fatima, focused, carving intricate patterns into wax, simulating rain-soaked desert sand, preparing for bronze casting.

It’s a handcrafted bronze bowl originally sculpted in wax and meticulously carved by hand. The bowl’s texture mimics the unique patterns of rain-soaked sand found in the desert of Ras al-Khaimah. The surface features a brown leather-look patina, inspired by the leather used during Bedouin migrations from the seaside to the desert.

Dixin Zheng

Dixin Zheng is an artist who concentrates on developing proficiency in various contemporary approaches and traditional silversmithing techniques. She primarily focused on crafting jewellery pieces during her undergraduate studies at Central Saint Martins and immersed herself in the fundamentals of silversmithing at RCA. Dixin’s works reflect her constant observation and elaboration of the surroundings, allowing audiences to perceive and resonate by different engaging approaches.
Dixin’s project is breaking the border of traditional spoon, using spoon as her material to express how people’s bodies perceive and explore their spaces. Inspired by Surrealism, she anthropomorphises spoon. Dixin believes that spoon is not only ‘cross-boundary’ and ‘across-space’ but also an extension of people’s body and a bridge for people to connect with their world.
