Two Brazilian Indigenous artists - Glicéria Tupinambá and Olinda Tupinambá - are coming to London in October for a talk at Central Saint Martins:

“Indigenous Creative Ecologies: with Glicéria Tupinambá and Olinda Tupinambá”

Tuesday 13 October
5:30-7pm
Room C202
Central Saint Martins, Granary Square N1C 4AA

🔗 Booking essential – link in bio.

This will be a rare chance to hear these creatives discuss how their work unites art, ancestral knowledge and environmental stewardship to resist colonial structures.

Glicéria Glicéria Tupinambá, an artist, researcher and leader from Serra do Padeiro, Bahia, researches Tupinambá feather mantles held in European museums, feeding this into the collective creation of new mantles, and reimagining restitution as cultural renewal.

Olinda Olinda Tupinambá, a performance artist, filmmaker and visual artist from Bahia, uses her body as a living site where culture, territory and political agency converge. In her work she embodies entities like the Kaapora, a forest-protecting cosmological entity, and the jaguar, as an ancestral presence affirming Indigenous existence in the face of erasure.

Both represented Brazil at the 60th Venice Biennale (2024). Now they bring their vision to CSM with a Q&A chaired by Dr Jamille Pinheiro Dias (University of London, School of Advanced Study) — a rare chance to hear from two artists reshaping Indigenous creative futures.

Live translation by Lucia Sa (University of Manchester)

The event is hosted by Dr Catalina Mejía Moreno (CSM Central Saint Martins) with support from Ponte, SAS and Bochinche, an initiative of the Spatial Practices Climate Forum at CSM funded by rearc institute.

Join Adriana Cobo-Corey , Senior Lecturer in Ethical Practice, and guest speakers for a panel presentation and discussion in celebration of Adriana’s recently published book ‘Mending Privately Owned Public Spaces: Works on Taste and Spatial Practice’ (Routledge, 2026).

Her book is motivated by a simple observation: Privately Owned Public Spaces are overlooked sites when it comes to explore the subject of taste in architecture and urban design. With a focus on collaborative practice and temporary interventions on POPS, the panel will address questions such as: why don’t we talk about taste in socially engaged practice today? Does a focus on aesthetics pose an ethical dilemma between superficiality and depth in the face of persistent social inequity?

On the panel:

Manijeh Verghese, CEO of Open City and a Mayor of London Design Advocate.
Anna Minton, Journalist, writer and academic. Author of Ground Control: Fear and Happiness in the Twenty-First Century City (Penguin, 2009)
Carl Fraser, Co-founder of Counter Mapping, designer, researcher and lecturer in architecture.
