Join us online on the 5 July from 2.30pm-3.30pm for ‘Donna Stonecipher – Der Rausch des Übersetzens’ where poet and translator Donna Stonecipher will read from and discuss her translations of Mayröcker’s études (2013), one of Mayröcker’s late works and part of a trilogy of book-length texts which includes cahier (2014) and fleurs (2016). Stonecipher will talk about her encounter with the late Friederike Mayröcker and reflect on the specific demands of translating this richly allusive diary-like sequence of poems, as well as on questions of affinity and kinship with the poetic voice and its author.

Friederike Mayröcker, generally considered to be one of the greatest German-language poets of her generation, is comparatively little researched. She has also written (poetic) prose, radio-plays, children’s books and produced a wealth of drawings. Her legacy is a large body of work, about a hundred publications over a long writing life of nearly eighty years. Mayröcker’s texts are tricky to translate and resist interpretation: they challenge us instead to reflect on what interpretation can achieve. ‘'ich lebe ich schreibe'. Friederike Mayröcker (1924–2021)’ will take place on 4th & 5th July online. Advanced registration required.
Register now to join this online conference, jointly organised by Andrea Capovilla (Ingeborg Bachmann Centre for Austrian Literature & Culture at the ILCS) and Nicola Thomas (Lancaster University), as they engage with Mayröcker’s fascinating and difficult body of work from a variety of angles, such as her close engagement with music, visual arts and post-structuralist theory, her nature-writing, and questions of voice, intertextuality, translation and translatability.

Book now to attend ‘Critical & Creative Digital Dynamics: A Symposium on AI & Digital Innovations for Inter-art Chamber Music Practices’ taking place on 24 June from 10am – 6pm at Senate House, London. This one-day symposium centred around AI, digital innovation, and the fusion of art forms in performance practices will dive into a world where artistic mediums transcend boundaries, combining live music-making with dynamic elements such as animated paintings, electronic literature, moving images, and more. This event transforms classical chamber music experience into an exploration of AI technology & business creativity across artistic mediums. We are pleased to announce a one-day symposium centred around AI, digital innovation, and the fusion of art forms in performance practices. We will dive into a...
