With the November 2026 ICAEW Case Study examination approaching, the focus should now shift from simply studying more to preparing more strategically.
At this stage, your preparation strategy matters as much as the hours you invest.
Here are five priorities to focus on over the coming weeks:
1. Move Beyond the Advance Information (AI)
Knowing the AI is not enough. Focus on identifying the key business issues, understanding the commercial context and applying your analysis to the requirements presented in the examination.
2. Practise Applying, Not Just Recalling
Case Study rewards the ability to use information in context. Practise developing specific, commercially sound recommendations supported by relevant analysis and clear justification.
3. Strengthen Your Exam Technique
Read requirements carefully, identify what each task demands, structure your responses logically and allocate your time according to the marks available.
4. Complete and Debrief Mock Examinations
Attempting a mock is only part of the process. Review your answers critically, identify recurring weaknesses and understand how to improve the quality, relevance and depth of your responses.
5. Refine Your Final Revision Plan
Prioritise high-value preparation activities, revisit areas of weakness and avoid spending excessive time on passive reading or trying to memorise everything.
Remember: The objective is not to know everything about the case. It is to demonstrate sound professional judgement, relevant analysis and commercially focused thinking in response to the requirements.
At Noman Liaqat - NL Professional Academy, our ICAEW Case Study preparation focuses on exam technique, practical application, mock examination practice and feedback designed to help candidates identify opportunities for improvement.
