In this case, Dr. Chris Lefkaditis demonstrates a Cowellmedi closed sleeve surgical guide ahead of implant placement, highlighting the minimal deviation and smooth drill guidance achieved through a well designed guided workflow.

But predictable guided surgery starts long before drilling.

Can your TCO scan for you?

With the right training, intraoral scanning can become a predictable part of the wider clinical workflow and it doesn’t always need to be the clinician holding the scanner.

But easy to use technology doesn’t replace good technique.

Understanding scan strategy, tissue management, how to recognise errors and when to rescan is what turns a scan into a reliable clinical record.

Good scanning starts with good education.

Should every implant placement be guided?

Guided surgery allows us to take a digitally planned, prosthetically driven implant position and transfer that plan to the patient with greater control.

But does that mean a surgical guide is necessary for every implant case?

Not necessarily.

The decision should be driven by the individual case - anatomy, restorative requirements, available space, complexity and the level of precision required.

Digital planning gives us more information. The skill is knowing how, and when, to use it.
