St Mellitus College It is widely thought to be one of the most innovative and exciting places to study theology and ministry in the UK.

St Mellitus College offers context-based theological training rooted in prayer and worship, combining academic excellence, a focus on missional leadership, and the shaping of Christian character. St Mellitus College has now grown to become one of the largest theological colleges in the Anglican Church worldwide, with 210 ordinands in training, and over 650 students taking its programmes. Named after the first Bishop of London, whose territory covered London and Essex, the College was founded in 2007 by the Bishops of London and Chelmsford. It emerged as the coming together of two institutions – North Thames Ministerial Training Course (NTMTC), based in the dioceses of London and Chelmsford, and St Paul’s Theological Centre (SPTC) which grew out of Holy Trinity Brompton. Today, we offer training opportunities in different parts of the country – London, Chelmsford, the North West and the South West. St Mellitus College is dedicated to providing theology in the context of worship, unity and mission, helping Christians explore their faith more deeply, combining academic excellence, a focus on missional leadership, and the flexibility to fit around busy lifestyles.

Malin is from a small town in Sweden and worked as a chef in London for many years. She is now in her final year at St Mellitus College and serves as a Families and Children’s Pastor and Youth Administrator, alongside raising her young family.

In 2019, Malin’s mother was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and, within weeks, rapidly declined. Malin travelled to Sweden to say goodbye and stayed for three months, caring for her mother alongside her sisters and father.

“Jesus knew what he was doing; he was calling me home to spend time with my mother and our family. It was during that time I grew closer to Jesus and really felt the calling to wanting to share the experience I had with God to others.”

Back in London, she began volunteering at her local church and became curious about her friends’ experiences studying theology. The first time she stepped through the doors at St Mellitus, she knew this was where she was called to be.

“I came out that evening thinking, ‘Wow, I belong here.’”

Studying academic theology in her second language, with no previous university experience, has not been easy. But Malin’s encouragement to others thinking of studying theology is:

“If you feel the calling, do it! Do not let worries or fear stop you. It can feel daunting. But I will say this: studying theology at St Mellitus College has changed my life. Jesus calling me to St Mellitus has been the greatest calling in my life.”
