University of East London The University of East London (UEL) is the careers-led university.

The University of East London (UEL) is a public university in the London Borough of Newham, London, England, based at three campuses in Stratford and Docklands, following the opening of University Square Stratford in September 2013. We have been pioneering futures since 1898: from the 2nd Industrial Revolution through to where we are now, the 4th. We are a careers-led university, dedicated to supporting our students to develop the skills, emotional intelligence and creativity needed to thrive in a constantly changing world.

A degree is just the beginning. đź’™

At our 2026 Teachers’ & Advisers’ Conference, we brought educators together to explore how we can better prepare students for their futures.

We caught up with Debbie Shepherd, Careers Adviser at All Saints Catholic School in Dagenham, to talk about how UEL’s careers-first approach combines learning with real-world work experience, opening doors for students in our local communities.

Why UEL? đź’™

For Forensic Psychology student Charlie, UEL's careers-first approach played a big part in her decision to study here.

Now, receiving a scholarship means she can put more of her money towards her children and family while pursuing her career ambitions.

Charlie's goal is to support people experiencing domestic abuse and their families, helping them find a way out of unsafe situations.

Congratulations on your scholarship, Charlie! We're proud to be part of your journey and wish you every success as you work towards making a difference in the lives of others.

"Awards like this are meaningful, but this one means so much more. It is not simply a recognition of how far I have come; it is a reminder of how much more there is to do for the communities we serve. UEL was where my journey began, but it has become so much more than a university to me. It is home. It is sanctuary." - Joel Mordi, Diversity Award Winner
