Dear colleagues,

What if hope could become something we practise together in education?

We are excited to invite you to the Summit of Hope, an online gathering on 14 October 2026 bringing together people who care about education and its possibilities.

The Summit grows from a simple belief: hope is active. It can help us imagine differently, connect across boundaries, and create possibilities even in uncertain and challenging times.

We want to bring together educators, students, researchers, practitioners, leaders and communities from different places and perspectives—not simply to talk about hope, but to explore what it might mean to put hope into practice across teaching, learning and research.

Expect conversation, curiosity, creativity and connection. Most importantly, expect to participate. This is a space for bringing your own experiences and questions, encountering those of others, and perhaps leaving with an idea, relationship or possibility that did not exist before.

SEDA: “As you think about assessments for 2026–27, here is one tool that might help: Voice, Judgement and Taste:
Voice — Can I see you in this work? Not just a writing style, but a position, interpretation or way of making meaning that you can stand behind. Have you made the work your own? Is it appropriate for the audience and purpose? Can you explain the choices that give it your perspective rather than AI’s default voice?

Judgement — Can you decide what to trust, what matters, what to use or reject, and explain why? Have you checked what needs checking? Can you recognise when an AI output is inadequate or wrong? Can you decide when to accept, adapt or reject it — and take responsibility for that decision?

Taste — Can you tell the difference between something that is merely plausible or competent and something that is actually good — appropriate, insightful, coherent, elegant, distinctive — and explain what makes it so? Can you choose between several plausible possibilities? Can you recognise what is worth developing, and know when and how to refine it?

These may be things we have always valued in student work, but AI makes the need to surface and assess them more pressing. So, as you look at an assessment, you might ask: Where will students need to exercise voice, judgement or taste — and how will I see it?
We explore these ideas, and practical ways of making them visible in assessment, in:
Gonsalves, C., Van Vuren, S. & Gill-Simmen, L. (2026), Assessing the Irreducibly Human in Marketing Education: A Voice, Judgement and Taste Framework for the Generative AI Era, Journal of Marketing Education. https://doi.org/10.1177/02734753261454375 “
