Last Thursday (1 October) marked National Poetry Day, and our students have been busy putting their creativity into words as part of a special poetry competition. ✍️📖

This week, we can't wait to hear all of the fantastic entries and celebrate our young poets as poems are shared and awards are presented in assembly.

🎭 What a Matilda-tastic Morning! 🎭

This morning, parents, staff and students were treated to a fantastic performance of Matilda, brought to life by our incredibly talented students.
Featuring many of the iconic scenes from the beloved story, the production had the audience captivated from start to finish. There was laughter, excitement and plenty of unforgettable moments throughout, showcasing the confidence, creativity and hard work of everyone involved.
A huge well done to our amazing performers and all the staff who helped make the show such a success.

🥤 A Fantastic Start to Work Experience! 🌱

Last week, our students had a fantastic time visiting The Juice Pantry in Lewisham as they took an exciting first step into their work experience journey within a local business.

The visit gave students the opportunity to see a real working environment, learn more about the day-to-day running of a business and begin developing valuable workplace skills. It was brilliant to see them engaging with staff, asking questions and getting an insight into what working in the food and hospitality industry can involve.

Experiences like this are an important part of preparing our students for life beyond school, helping them to build confidence, independence, communication skills and employability skills in a real-world setting.

A huge thank you to The Juice Pantry for welcoming our students and supporting the start of their work experience journey. 💚

📸 Putting learning into action!

One of our BTEC Photography students, GJ, demonstrated excellent creativity and technical skill last week while photographing key areas across the school as part of their coursework. Practical experiences like these help students develop their confidence, enhance their portfolio, and apply their learning in a real-world setting.

🌟 A Proud Culinary Achievement! 🌟

There was a real sense of accomplishment in the Food Technology classroom this week as one of our students proudly showcased a plate of beautifully made Scotch eggs.

From preparing the ingredients to mastering the cooking process, this hands-on activity helped develop valuable culinary skills, confidence, and attention to detail. The finished result looked fantastic, and the student's pride in their work was clear to see.

Well done on a brilliant effort and a delicious-looking outcome! 👏🍴

Access Sport is excited to be hosting a free October Holiday Programme for children and young people with SEND living in Lewisham and the surrounding areas.

This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to try a range of local activities in a welcoming and inclusive environment. All sessions are adapted to meet individual needs and designed to be fun, accessible, and engaging.

💜 Listening, Learning and Growing Together 💜

At Riverston School, we believe that strong partnerships with parents and carers are essential to helping every young person thrive. Earlier this year, we invited families to share their experiences through our annual parent and carer survey, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who took the time to provide feedback.

The responses highlighted many of the qualities that define the Riverston experience: a caring and inclusive environment, dedicated staff, strong pastoral support, and an approach that recognises each child as an individual. Families spoke about their children feeling safe, understood and valued, as well as the significant progress they have made both academically and personally.

One parent shared:
“The difference in our child in a year is astonishing. He feels accepted, safe and happy coming to school. We are so very happy that he is at Riverston.”

Another commented:
“My child has thrived at this school and I can’t recommend it enough.”

Alongside these encouraging reflections, families also provided thoughtful suggestions around communication, enrichment opportunities and curriculum choices. This feedback is invaluable and helps inform our ongoing development as we continue to strengthen and enhance the experience we provide.
