Just another Sunday in London... ๐Ÿ‘

While you might have started your day with a coffee, UCL Lawsโ€™ Professor Franziska Arnold-Dwyer was driving sheep across the River Thames!

As a Freeman of the City of London, Franziska is entitled to exercise a centuries-old right to herd livestock across the river toll-free.

Thank you to Franziska for sharing some brilliant photos that captured this fun and unique London tradition! โœจ

When does rehabilitation become exploitation? ๐Ÿค”
ย
UCL Laws PhD candidate Mario Guido explains his research in just under three minutes, exploring how prison labour sits at the intersection of employment rights, rehabilitation and international law, while proposing principles for a fairer system.
ย
Mario won the UCL Laws Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition earlier this year before going on to become runner-up in the UCL-wide Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition last month.
ย
As Dean Professor Eloise Scotford said, โ€˜Distilling and communicating a PhD thesis of 100,000 words into such a short presentation is a real achievement. This is a wonderful reflection of Marioโ€™s doctoral work and skills.โ€™
ย
Can you explain your PhD in just 180 seconds? ๐Ÿ‘‡

Watch Marioโ€™s pitch and let us know what you think!

UCL Laws recently marked two centuries of leadership in expanding womenโ€™s access to legal education with a powerful International Womenโ€™s Day event that brought together a distinguished panel of inspiring practitioners and academics. โš–๏ธ ๐ŸŽ“

A huge thank you to our panellists โ€“ Laura Devine, Professor Dame Hazel Genn, Baroness Hale of Richmond, Dee Masters, Professor Dawn Oliver, and Toni Williams โ€“ for sharing their experiences, including the progress that has been made and the structural barriers that remain.

And thank you to our chairs and co-organisers, UCL Lawsโ€™ Alison Diduck (Professor of Law) and Virginia Mantouvalou (Professor of Human Rights and Labour Law, and Co-Director of the UCL Institute for Human Rights), for guiding such powerful reflections. ๐Ÿ’ก

Professor Graham Penn introduces the intellectual foundations of the MSc Law and Finance at our upcoming in-person Open Day on 4 March! โš–๏ธ๐Ÿ“Š

At the event, Graham will explore how legal, financial, and regulatory thinking intersect in the global corporate and finance world, which is a central question that shapes the structure of the degree from the very beginning.ย

This matters now because employers increasingly look for graduates who can navigate complex transactions, regulation, and markets with both legal precision and financial insight . The MSc is designed to reflect that professional reality, combining academic depth with applied learning, including placements and real-world deal simulations developed with leading firms ๐Ÿ’ผ ๐ŸŒ

Join us on 4 March to meet Professor Penn, academic colleagues, professional services staff, and current students, and to learn more about studying at UCL Laws and the MSc Law and Finance.
