What can you learn from a prosthetic & makeup FX artist who has worked on Saving Private Ryan, The Mummy, Shaun of the Dead, Stardust and Game of Thrones? 🎨

We sat down with prosthetic makeup artist Stuart Bray during his visit to MetFilm School Brighton to hear his industry advice on working in prosthetics and makeup effects.

Stuart also spent time with our BA (Hons) Hair and Makeup for Screen and Film lecturers, taking them through a digital prosthetics workflow using our new Revopoint MIRACO scanner and Phrozen Sonic Mega 8K S printer.

The session covered 3D scanning, working with digital models in ZBrush, and preparing and printing physical forms for prosthetic work.

A huge thank you to Stuart for sharing your knowledge and experience with us!

We caught up with Sammie Poyner, a student on the MA Screen & Film Production at MetFilm School Birmingham, to explore how they developed motion control rigs using recycled 3D printer parts and Arduino electronics.

Inspired by motion control techniques used in productions such as The Mandalorian, Sammie explored whether a filming rig could be created on a low budget while still producing quality results for film.

The project aimed to make sci-fi and fantasy filmmaking more affordable by developing a low-cost motion control rig capable of producing cinematic shots. 🎥

Drawing from their short film series, which follows a non-binary person and a robot travelling through space 200 years in the future, Sammie developed the rig through a series of prototypes to explore accessible ways of achieving cinematic results.

Congratulations to Sammie on bringing this innovative project to life. 👏

Our BA Filmmaking students at MetFilm School Brighton had the rare chance to visit Kodak Film Lab at Pinewood Studios and watch their own exposed negatives emerge from the processor. 🎞️

The visit tied into two specialist workshops covering Super 16 and 35mm formats, where students gained hands-on experience with celluloid filmmaking using industry-standard equipment.

Our students also had the opportunity to walk through the heart of Pinewood Studios, a place with over 90 years of film history.

As one of the few film schools in the UK offering hands-on celluloid training, MetFilm School gives students the opportunity to develop the technical and creative skills needed for professional filmmaking.

Thank you to Kodak Film Lab and Panavision for helping make these workshops possible! 🎬

Huge congratulations to MetFilm School Leeds graduate Patrick Gilmore, who has been cast as Pete Best in the upcoming BBC drama Hamburg Days.

The six-part series explores The Beatles' formative years in Hamburg's vibrant live music scene, revealing the experiences and relationships that shaped their sound and set them on the path to global success.

Patrick, who studied BA Acting for Screen at MetFilm School Leeds, said:

"I’m absolutely delighted to be filming Hamburg Days, as it’s such a rare opportunity to tell the story of the early days of The Beatles. Being a lad from Liverpool to get his break in the industry by playing the role of Pete Best is beyond anything I could have imagined."

We’re also proud to see MetFilm School Berlin talent contributing behind the scenes, with BA Practical Filmmaking graduate Tunde Aladese joining the production as a writer.

Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this exciting story to the screen. 👏
