On 30 September, members of the UAL Alumni Sustainability Network gathered at the London, for an evening of thoughtful conversation on the themes of IMAGINE, DESIGN, IMPLEMENT, ENGINEER, and ADOPT.

From Fine Art student to game creator 🎮✨

graduate has released the demo for Starway to Urf on Steam, a point-and-click adventure game exploring visions of positive futures within a dystopian cartoon world.

Sam describes his time at Chelsea as "like playtime", giving him "the time and space to dream, think and do". After graduating, he applied for artist residencies across Europe, met his wife and moved to Austria. His creative journey has included everything from academic writing and filmmaking to prototype sitcoms, and now game development, and has always been driven by a love of making. ““I want to do it forever” he says.

"I think it's our duty as artists to try and describe more positive futures at the moment."

Rhia Elise’s () bold contemporary portraits explore the strength and softness in the Black experience through figurative realism.

A graduate from , Rhia’s style is detailed and evocative; her subjects draw you into her intimate world through leisurely posture, unwavering warmth or daring gaze.

Viewers become active participants in the moment shared between themselves and the subject; they may experience the influence of Rhia’s neurodiversity in the feelings evoked by eye contact - and lack thereof - with the subjects of her paintings.

In her professional debut series Femmes De Soleil (Women Of The Sun) at Bloomsbury Festival 2026, Rhia explores her blackness through her subjects

“I’m mixed (multiracial). I see myself as a racial nomad - because if no one claims me and everyone claims me then I can be nothing and everything all at once. I find others beautiful and I’m trying to find beauty in myself. I’m a part of this group (black women) and I’m not beautiful in spite of my blackness, I’m beautiful because of it.”

Congratulations to .hq, who graduated from MA Screenwriting at on in 2025, and is now preparing to debut her play, .play at Canada Water Theatre. Opening this weekend as part of ‘s Young, Gifted & Black season, the play is a celebration of powerful, personal and political work reflecting the richness of Black British life and culture.

Joy is inspired by stories rooted in place, identity and community; “I’m drawn to music, graffiti, folklore and the ways people use creativity to claim space.”

Whilst at LCC, Joy developed her voice a writer and as a collaborator. “Collaboration is very central to my practice and how I develop ideas. A huge benefit of my time at UAL was learning about UAL Showcase, it's an amazing resource to find collaborators. I’m actually collaborating with two other UAL graduates on my play.”

Set in a changing Elephant and Castle, .play follows a Black teenage graffiti artist retracing his steps after a head injury fractures his memory. The play explores grief, belonging, gentrification and our relationship with the places we call home.

"I'm on sticks, OK, I've got replacement hips, but I'm still, I'm still dancing."

Huge congratulations to , who has won the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2026 for her piece, Octogenarian Dancer (2025).
Yvonne, who holds a PhD in Fine Art Practice from (2001), beat more than 2,500 entries from over 1,400 artists across 48 countries to win the £15,000 prize.

The playful drawing takes a single line off the page and into space. The suspended wire figure captures a dancer’s poise without arms or legs and celebrates what the artist’s body can still do in her 80s.

Alongside Yvonne, the Three Boroughs’ Award of £1,000 was awarded to Lucie Holzer for Stairway at Dusk (2026). Lucie completed her Foundation Diploma at in 2014.

The exhibition at Trinity Buoy Wharf is open daily from 11am to 6pm until Sunday 4 October 2026 and is free to visit. The exhibition will then tour the UK.

Eve Wysocki is a zero-waste fashion designer who designs one-size sustainable clothing. With over 20 years’ experience in the fashion industry, Eve’s commercial experience gave her a strong understanding of product development, garment construction and the realities of large-scale production.

During her MA in Pattern and Garment Technology at , Eev told us that she had the space to research zero-waste construction and adaptable sizing, which became an important foundation for her current practice at Eve Wysocki Design.

“Studying at LCF gave me the space to experiment beyond the usual constraints of the market and to approach pattern cutting as a form of design research. It allowed me to explore ideas that would have been difficult to develop within a conventional commercial design process, particularly zero-waste construction and adaptable sizing.

“LCF taught me to treat fashion as a discipline research-led, rigorous and accountable. It shaped how I design today: I work process-first, starting from construction and purpose rather than trends. It also made me more critical about the system behind clothing, waste, materials and labour. Which is why zero-waste isn’t a marketing layer in my work, it’s the design method.”

Her work is particularly inspired by the relationship between clothing, the body and different body shapes; "I’m interested in how one garment can adapt to different people without relying on conventional sizing and grading.”
