Queen Mary University of London welcomed 17 President’s Global Scholars and five British Council Women in STEM scholars at a special reception hosted by President and Principal, Professor Colin Bailey CBE.

Bringing together new and returning scholars from across the world, the event celebrated academic excellence and provided an opportunity to share experiences, build connections and strengthen our international community.

Queen Mary Emerita Professor of Medicine and Education, Professor Dame Parveen Kumar, recently appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, reflecting on her life and career.

A leading figure in medicine and medical education, Professor Dame Parveen was awarded a GBE in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours for her services to global medical education and health.

She is also co-author of Kumar and Clark’s Clinical Medicine, a textbook used by medical students and healthcare professionals around the world.

Queen Mary continues to be recognised as a leader in the latest Knowledge Exchange Framework, produced by Research England with the latest results showing strong performance across our research, innovation and public engagement.

The 2026 Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF6) results show that we remain leading in the country for:

🔬 Research partnerships
💡 IP and commercialisation
🤝 Public and community engagement

We’ve also seen significant improvements in CPD and graduate start-ups and regeneration and local growth, where we are now classified as showing high engagement.

Together, these results demonstrate how Queen Mary continues to share knowledge, expertise and ideas, creating positive economic and social impact across East London, the UK and beyond.
