Is moving abroad for a Master’s worth it? 🌍

For Asmita, moving 7,000km from India to London to study a Master’s at The Bartlett School of Planning meant much more than earning a degree.

For the sixth year in a row, UCL has been named one of the UK's top universities for knowledge exchange 🏆

Research England has published the Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF6) results today. They show how our work benefits the economy and society, through partnerships with business, government, charities and communities, and by supporting spinouts and student startups.

Sharing our expertise has always been at the heart of UCL.

Dr Michael Spence, UCL’s President and Provost, said: “We are delighted to receive this recognition from Research England during UCL’s bicentenary year. For 200 years UCL has championed ideas with the potential to change the world, and our focus on this mission remains as strong today as it was when we first opened our doors two centuries ago.”

Congratulations to Professor Mariam Jamal-Hanjani (UCL Cancer Institute) who has been appointed Cancer Research UK’s new Chief Clinician, helping to shape the future of clinical cancer research and improve outcomes for patients.

In her new role, Professor Jamal-Hanjani will work across the cancer research community to help drive progress in prevention, diagnosis and treatment. 🧬

📸 The Student Photo Competition is back for 2026/27.

From October 2026 to May 2027, we’re inviting current UCL students to share the moments that capture university life through their eyes.

Each month, one winning photograph will receive a £50 Love2Shop voucher, with shortlisted entries put to a public vote on our Instagram account.

How to enter:
• Post your own photo on Instagram
• Use the hashtag and tag
• Send us a DM to confirm your entry

At the end of the competition, all eight monthly winners will go forward to the Photo of the Year vote in July 2027, with prizes of £200 for first place, £100 for second place and £50 for third place.

Whether it’s campus life, your UCL community, an unforgettable London moment or somewhere completely unexpected, we’d love to see UCL from your perspective.

The first round opens on 1 October.
