Once again, it was fantastic to have support of Alumni Ambassador, Bram, this time at the Trent College, HMC Independent School Sixth Form Open Evening earlier this week.

Tilly's work experience with OT Anthony Cheung (class of 2012) is a testament to the value of connection between our alumni network and the Sixth Form, and the incredible opportunities available to the students.

Tilly: "I've thoroughly enjoyed my time and learned so much about the ins and outs of being a criminal barrister. It has definitely solidified my decision to pursue law and become a barrister."

"This experience would not have been possible without help from the amazing alumni network that Trent has".

This week, as we celebrate the country’s first National Cadet Week 5-9 October) we’re reminded of the lifelong impact CCF can have.
Two Old Tridents returned to the field to support Trent College, HMC Independent School Cadets, sharing their experiences and reflecting on where their own CCF journeys have taken them.
2LT Milly Hibbs (pictured) went on to a career in the military, while Alex Copson became a paramedic and continues to work in the outdoors.

Their return to Field Day is a testament to the journeys that begin at Trent and the adventures that await.

It was a lovely morning at Trent College, HMC Independent School for Saturday’s Open Morning, with families exploring the campus and getting a feel for life at Trent.

Sharing the value of alumni connections and networking opportunities fostered through the school's Alumni Office, we were joined by three of our Alumni Ambassadors, Bram, Sapira and Freya, who shared their experiences with prospective pupils and their families.

Between them, they represented three different Trent journeys, from joining in Year 7, boarding from Year 9 to coming straight into the Sixth Form. They talked about the opportunities they took, the support they received and how Trent helped prepare them for what came next: from a Degree Apprenticeship and a career in fashion to starting a law degree.

It was lovely to see Sapira and Freya also catching up with former teachers in the Art Department, with Sapira sharing the exciting news that she recently showcased her graduate collection at London Fashion Week.

Thank you, Bram, Sapira and Freya, for giving your time and sharing your experiences. Hearing directly from recent Old Tridents gives families a perspective we simply can't provide as staff.

We’re now looking forward to the Sixth Form Information Evening on Tuesday 6 October; with the number of visiting families still rising, we are looking for a few more Alumni Ambassador volunteers. If you’re a recent leaver (past 5 years) and would like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you.

🎨 A double success for OT Izzy Barnett (class of 2024)

We’re delighted to celebrate the success of former Trent College, HMC Independent School pupil Izzy Barnett, who has won both the Emerging Artist Prize and the People’s Choice Award at this year’s Melbourne Art Festival for her portrait, Maria.

Now studying Fine Art at Charles H. Cecil Studios in Florence, Izzy exhibited alongside established artists from across the Midlands.

Her success with Maria was followed by interest from several potential buyers, and we’re delighted to share that the painting has now been sold!

The festival, now in its 21st year, celebrates the breadth of the Midlands art scene, making Izzy’s double award a wonderful achievement as she begins to establish herself as an artist.

And there’s another exciting Trent connection: Izzy was recently commissioned by the Old Tridents Society to paint a portrait of retired Headmaster Bill Penty, who will be travelling to Florence next week for the sitting.

A glimpse of what guests at the OT Society Annual Dinner will be treated to tomorrow night as the Trident Brass ensemble welcomes them through the Chapel doors and into the Devonshire Library for their pre-dinner drinks.

The talent in the Trent College Music School is quite special, and it's always such a pleasure to offer event guests the chance to experience it for themselves.

“𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐞𝐟𝐭 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭?”

That was the question at the heart of this week’s 𝑊ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝐼 𝑊𝑖𝑠ℎ 𝐼’𝑑 𝐾𝑛𝑜𝑤𝑛 Alumni Panel, where four recent Old Tridents returned to share their experiences with Trent College, HMC Independent School Year 13 students.

From studying in the USA and Australia, to degree apprenticeships, university placements and graduate careers, Irini, Ben, Alice and Leo brought four very different perspectives on life after Trent.

Their conversations covered university choices, accommodation, applications, money, making friends, studying abroad and the transition into work, but also the skills and experiences they gained at Trent that continue to help them today.

It was a great reminder of the value of our alumni community. Old Tridents don’t just represent where a Trent education can lead, they can share how they got there.

🎓 CLASS OF 1991, CAN YOU HELP US FIND YOUR FRIENDS?

It’s 35 years since the Class of 1991 left Trent College, and we’re getting ready to welcome them back to school for a special reunion.

📅 Saturday 10 October 2026 | 12.30–4.30pm

The idea for the reunion was sparked by two members of the Class of 1991, Chris and Lucy Brazendale (nee Wilson) who felt it was time to bring everyone back together. We’d love to make sure as many of the year group as possible know about it.

And this is where we need your help.

You might be the person who helps us reconnect two old friends who haven't spoken for years. ❤️
