AI is changing how people bank, save, borrow and ask for help. It could make finance faster, cheaper – and even more personal. But if customers cannot understand decisions, challenge mistakes or reach a human when things go wrong, “smart” finance may simply become a more efficient way to frustrate people.

In a new article for The Conversation UK, Loughborough Business School academics Meilan Yan and David Llewellyn, and co-author Dalu Zhang, examine the question: Will AI really make banking better for customers?

Great to see the fantastic work happening at the CIPD Branch in Leicestershire. At the recent Branch AGM, MSc Human Resource Management graduate, Shania Busby, was recognised for her outstanding contribution as a Student Ambassador, engaging students across Loughborough University with the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD).

This recognition highlights the ongoing efforts to strengthen connections between academic institutions and the HR profession.

Thanks to Louise Lennon and Meera Bhalla for their leadership and ongoing support in driving this engagement forward. The CIPD Leicestershire Branch has been putting real energy into student engagement, including events hosted recently at Loughborough Business School for MSc students, creating valuable opportunities to connect, learn, and develop within the profession.

🚆 Do railways really drive economic development? Not on their own, argues Loughborough Business School's Stefan Nikolić in a new article for VoxDev.

New research examining the development of Bosnia prior to the First World War shows that while railways can transform local economies, their long-term impact depends on much more than tracks and trains. Connections to larger markets matter, but so do human capital, strong institutions, and competitive pressures.

In the emerging era of AI, as countries look to leverage technology to boost economic competitiveness and productivity, decision-makers are faced with a critical question: How can governments maintain security and control of AI infrastructure whilst managing costs?

Loughborough Business School Professors Tom Jackson and Ian Hodgkinson, in collaboration with Bain & Company, have made key contributions to addressing this question in a new World Economic Forum (WEF) white paper: “AI Infrastructure in the Age of Sovereignty: Requirements, Strategies and a Trusted Framework for Digital Embassies”.

Last weekend, Loughborough University welcomed alumni back to campus for a memorable Alumni Reunion Weekend, while graduates across the globe joined in the celebrations through a series of events organised by Global Alumni Ambassadors.

The weekend brought together alumni from across decades, offering the chance to reconnect with friends, revisit favourite places, and rediscover what makes Loughborough special. At the same time, this year marked the first time the celebrations extended across the world, with alumni gatherings taking place in Nigeria, Ghana, India, Singapore, and the USA.
