New research highlights the health benefits of cleaner air for children.

A landmark study involving University of Bedfordshire researchers has found that improvements in air quality following the introduction of London's Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) were strongly linked to accelerated lung growth in children. The five-year study tracked more than 3,400 children across London and Luton and found that reductions in air pollution helped children’s lung development improve significantly.

Professor Gurch Randhawa, Director of our Institute for Health and Wellbeing Research, said the findings provide important evidence of the health benefits of clean air zones and will be of interest as Luton and Bedfordshire plan for future development and regeneration.
