Located in the heart of Manchester, UK, the RNCM is dedicated to providing an outstanding education that propels its students into careers as inspiring and versatile musicians, fully-equipped for exciting futures both on and off stage. Housing three major performance spaces, the College is also a vibrant live music venue offering unparalleled opportunities for students to perform to public audiences and to work alongside professional musicians and visiting artists. In 2024 we were rated Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework and are currently ranked No 5 for music and No 8 for performing arts in the QS World University Rankings. We are also the recipient of five Times Higher Education Awards (including Outstanding Entrepreneurial University), two Greater China Awards, a Global Teaching Excellence Spotlight Award, and two Heist Awards.

Lunchtime Concerts are officially back!

On Thursday, musicians from Royal Northern Sinfonia joined our students for an exciting chamber ensemble performance.

Featuring guest principals Jonathan Stone, Edvard Pogossian and Lawrence O’Donnell, the programme included Jessie Montgomery’s Shift, Change, Turn and Stravinsky’s Concerto in E-flat major (‘Dumbarton Oaks’).

The concert offered our students valuable experience performing alongside professional musicians and learning from their expertise.

It’s one of the ways we’re working with Royal Northern Sinfonia to give real-world experiences to our students, and we look forward to seeing some of them participate in the RNS Moves Professional Experience Scheme later this academic year.

We are delighted to present Roger Taylor with Fellowship of the Royal Northern College of Music in recognition of his significant contribution to popular music and almost six decades of songwriting.

He was presented with the award by RNCM Principal Professor Linda Merrick CBE, Professor Andy Stott, Head of Popular Music, and Manus Carey, Deputy Principal and Artistic Director, before his performance at the Opera House yesterday as part of his Violence Insane in a Beautiful World tour.

Receiving the award, he said: ‘Thank you so much to the Royal Northern College of Music for this fellowship award. I am honoured’

Our free workshops for young musicians are back, with several opportunities to take part throughout the year.

This is an exciting opportunity for young players of school age to develop creative, musical and technical skills.

There is no selection process and there will be something for everyone, whether a beginner or a more experienced player.

All workshops take place at the RNCM, on Sundays, 10:00-13:00
