Second call for convenors:
This year’s conference will be held on Monday 11th of September to Wednesday 13th September 2023.

The MANCEPT Workshops is an annual conference in political theory, organised under the auspices of the Manchester Centre for Political Theory. The conference offers academics an opportunity to come together in a series of workshops to develop specialised work and engage in lively philosophical discussion. Attracting scholars throughout the world, the conference is now established as a leading international forum dedicated to the development of research in all subfields of political theory.

We are now accepting applications for workshop convenors. Convenors coordinate and chair individual panels at the Workshops. The Workshops are distinctive in creating a space for both small group discussions focused on tightly defined topics, while simultaneously providing opportunities for engaging with theorists working on the widest possible range of areas in Political and Moral Philosophy. Holding the workshops online in 2020 and 2021 has also opened up opportunities for more diverse and inclusive participation, something we continued in 2022 and want to encourage going forward. As such, convenors will have discretion to run their panels as either entirely in person or in a hybrid manner, with speakers presenting both in person and via zoom. We will also accept a limited number of applications for online only panels, conducted entirely via Zoom. Please specify in your email whether your panel will be in person, hybrid or entirely online, along with a brief outline of why this is required or preferable. The format of your panel will be confirmed if accepted.

Applications are made by submitting a short (500 word) abstract describing the subject of your workshop via email. Please note that the deadline for workshop proposals is Monday 27th February 2023. If accepted, convenors then put out their own call for papers for the panel based on their proposal. Panels will also be advertised on our website.

Successful convenors and panellists will be eligible to apply for a bursary consisting in a fee waiver. Bursaries will be awarded on the basis of need. Further details and instructions on how to apply will be released in due course.

This year’s conference will be held on Monday 11th of September to Wednesday 13th September 2023.

Given the continued uncertainty with the C-19 pandemic, and the success of hosting the 2020 workshops online, we will once again be holding this year’s event online.

The MANCEPT Workshops is an annual conference in political theory, organised under the auspices of the Manchester Centre for Political Theory. The next conference will take place on Tuesday 7th of September to Friday 10th September 2021. The conference offers academics an opportunity to come together in a series of workshops so as to develop specialised work and engage in lively philosophical discussion. The final format of this year’s workshop has yet to be decided. Given the continued uncertainty with the C-19 pandemic, and the success of hosting the 2020 workshops online, at present we are proceeding with planning for an on-line event. However, we will also organize an in-person event at the University of Manchester should it be possible to do so safely. We welcome any thoughts you have on both an on-line only and a possible blended model where we have combined in-person and on-line workshops.
