Many of our academics have research links with overseas organisations such as the United Nations, the World Trade Organisation and a number of legal authorities and international law schools. Such a network means we can offer student exchange programmes with universities in Europe, USA, Australia and Singapore, enriching the student experience of those who study with us. Our School is also the UK member of the Consortium of European Law Schools which was awarded funding from the EU to establish a Europe-China School of Law (ECSL) in Beijing. The new School opened in 2008 and is the first of its kind, offering courses that span both Chinese and Western law and strengthening the education links between Manchester and one of today’s biggest global economies. We are held in high esteem by the legal profession and many leading solicitors provide us with sponsorship. This includes the funding of our Legal Advice Centre, which was opened in 2000 to provide our students with practical experience in pro bono legal work, and a free legal advice service to the local community.
