Sometimes the best instruction is no instruction at all

A great teaching tip from one of our recent CertTESOL graduates.

When giving instructions, demonstrating what learners need to do can be far more effective than a lengthy explanation.

Learners can see exactly what the task involves, making instructions clearer and helping them get started with confidence.

A simple technique that can make a real difference in the classroom.

"Stay organised and don't leave your assignments until the last minute!"

That's Noreen's top piece of advice after successfully completing the Level 5 Trinity CertTESOL with us.

In this short video, Noreen shares why she decided to train as an ESOL teacher, the lesson that completely changed the way she thinks about teaching, how the course helped build her confidence, and why she'd encourage anyone considering a career in ESOL to go for it.

If you're interested in training to teach English, we'd love to hear from you!

One of the best parts of my job is seeing our trainees grow in confidence.

Matt completed our Trinity CertTESOL course earlier this year, and I’m delighted to share some of his reflections on the experience.

If you’ve ever thought about becoming an English teacher, I hope his story inspires you.

📅 Our next course starts on 14 September.

Do you find yourself scratching your head over how to tackle the language analysis on your lesson plan?🧐

You are not alone! It’s the part most trainee teachers find hardest.

So to help, I’ve designed a guide to completing language analysis with confidence. My 6 step guide covers the different types of lessons you might teach with worked examples to bring it all to life.

If you’d like a free copy, comment GUIDE and I’ll send it straight over. 🤩

This year marks the 154th anniversary of Trinity College London, and we’re proud to be entering our 10th year as a Trinity CertTESOL provider. 🙌 🎉

Over the last decade, we’ve had the privilege of training and supporting teachers from a huge range of backgrounds, watching trainees develop their confidence, skills and careers in ELT.

We’ve seen the course evolve through enormous changes, including COVID, moving from fully face to face delivery to the blended format we run today.

We’re proud to be celebrating not just our own milestone, but the achievements of all the trainees who have been part of the journey over the years.

Happy anniversary Trinity College London! 🥂 🎉

Certificate time! 🎓

From January to April 2026, we ran two Trinity CertTESOL courses with a wonderful bunch of trainees.

The CertTESOL is not an easy course. It takes up a lot of time, requires a huge amount of commitment and can be a real challenge to juggle alongside work, family and other responsibilities. I'm very proud to say that all 24 trainees passed! 🎉

January starts are always interesting! We begin in the dead of winter, with short days, dark evenings and everyone wondering quite what they've signed up for! The course can feel intense at first. There is a lot to take in, a lot to do and a lot to balance. But as the weeks progress, we move into spring, confidence grows, trainees support one another and things begin to click into place. Before you know it, we're finishing the course in the middle of a UK heatwave, celebrating successful completion and certificates finally arriving through the post.

One of the things I love most about the course is the mix of people it brings together. Our trainees come from all sorts of different backgrounds and career paths. Some are recent graduates, some are looking for a career change, some want to teach abroad or online, and others are already volunteering or working in community, education or support roles and want to strengthen their practice.

Some trainees completed their teaching practice face to face, others online, but everyone trained together over many Monday evenings and Friday mornings. Seeing trainees support one another, share ideas, overcome challenges and grow in confidence is one of the best parts of running the course.

Lovely to receive their feedback and proud photos of them posing with their certificates!

Huge congratulations to all 24 trainees. You worked incredibly hard and should be very proud of yourselves. 🙌

“I felt that I could be doing the conversation classes better.”

Before starting the Trinity CertTESOL, Marg was already supporting ESOL learners through informal community conversation classes. However, she wanted to develop the skills and confidence needed to deliver more structured and effective English language support for learners from refugee and migrant backgrounds.

In this short testimonial, Marg reflects on how the course helped her better understand lesson planning, learner needs, language analysis and teaching mixed-level groups. She also talks about how the qualification has improved the quality of the community ESOL support she provides.

A huge thank you to Marg for sharing her experience. ❤️

Marg completed the course through an RSMP-funded training place.

“I had the theory. What I needed was real classroom experience.”

Before joining the Trinity CertTESOL, Fatima had already completed a Master’s degree in TESOL. She had a strong academic understanding of language teaching but no practical classroom experience.

That’s what led her to the Trinity CertTESOL.

In this short clip, Fatima talks honestly about the difference between studying teaching theory and actually standing in front of real learners.

She reflects on:
✔️ teaching practice with real ESOL learners
✔️ building confidence week by week
✔️ lesson planning and classroom management
✔️ learning how to respond in real teaching situations
✔️ bridging the gap between theory and practice

Like many trainees, Fatima describes the course as intensive — but absolutely worth it.

One of the biggest strengths of the Trinity CertTESOL is that trainees are teaching from the beginning, supported through detailed feedback, tutorials and reflective practice. For many people, this is where teaching really starts to make sense.

Fatima also talks about wanting to use her skills to support learners within her community and help people build confidence through English language learning.

🎓 Trinity CertTESOL — internationally recognised Level 5 TESOL qualification.

If you’re thinking about moving into ESOL teaching and wondering where to start, practical teaching experience really matters.
