Our Employability Team and Advanced Manufacturing & Built Environment staff were thrilled to visit the new Marshall Land Systems site in Merthyr Tydfil, strengthening an exciting partnership that is creating new employment opportunities for local people.

As Marshall Land Systems relocates manufacturing operations from Cambridge to Merthyr, the college has been working closely with the company to support recruitment and engagement activities including employer visits, assessment centres and careers events.

Looking to the future, we are excited to continue developing this partnership, with plans for a Marshall Land Systems Employer Academy and apprenticeship opportunities from 2027.

Together, we are helping to create clear pathways from education into rewarding careers within the advanced manufacturing and defence sectors, ensuring local learners and residents can benefit from this significant investment in our region.

🎭🏴󠁧󠁒󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Welsh Language Comes to Life in Creative Industries! 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🎭

Our Performing Arts and Drama learners enjoyed an inspiring visit to the RSC Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon yesterday to watch As You Like It, directed by acclaimed Welsh director Daniel Evans.

A huge thank you to actor Rhys Parry-Jones for taking the time to speak with our learners after the performance πŸ₯° It was a wonderful opportunity for our Creative Industries learners to meet him, ask questions and gain valuable insight into the world of theatre.

A fantastic opportunity for our Creative Industries learners to enjoy the show! 🎭 We’d love to explore opportunities to work with Daniel Evans in the future and create exciting experiences for our learners.

What made the experience even more impactful was hearing Welsh woven throughout the production, helping learners see first-hand how the language can be creatively embedded within the performing arts.

This linked perfectly with the Welsh language development taking place within their lessons and practical sessions here at the college, where Welsh is being integrated into their learning and performance work.

And what better time to celebrate than on Shwmae Day, a day dedicated to encouraging everyone to use and enjoy the Welsh language!

Diwrnod Shwmae! πŸ‘‹ We are proud to be embedding Cymraeg across our Creative Industries provision, helping learners develop valuable skills, explore their cultural heritage and experience the language in new and exciting ways.

Diolch yn fawr, Rhys, am roi dy amser i siarad Ò’n dysgwyr a rhannu dy brofiadau gyda nhw! 🎭

🎭✨ Real industry experiences. Meaningful partnerships. Incredible opportunities. ✨🎭

At The College Merthyr Tydfil, we’re committed to ensuring our learners gain the very best experiences during their studies through strong partnerships with employers, industry professionals and organisations.

Our Performing Arts learners are currently collaborating with the charity Our Streets Now, Director Samantha Jones, and Theatre Maker Kyle Stead on a project that they are incredibly passionate about. Inspired by themes from Red Oak Theatre Company’s Sian De Bergerac, written by Emma Cooney and directed by Samantha Jones, our student acting company Theatre Glo will develop and create their own original performance piece, culminating in a performance at the Sherman Theatre on the afternoon of 22nd October.

This is just one example of how our learners work alongside industry professionals, tackle important real-world issues, and access exciting opportunities beyond the classroom.
