✨ These images remind me just how blown away I was watching Teesside University’s End of Year Fashion Show 💃🕺🪩last week!

Our Fashion Degree students get to exhibit garments in every year of their degree as they build towards their final year collections, ensuring they have clear ideas, strong craft and the confidence to push their work further each year.

The final year show brings everything together. Students present full collections that reflect who they are becoming as designers and thinkers. The work is grounded, ambitious and shaped by the identities they’ve been forming since their first weeks with us, whilst supported by committed tutors who are industry practitioners.

This semester has shown how much fashion and design talent is growing here in Teesside. The ideas were thoughtful, the fashion was not just creative but ethical too and the students are absolutely committed to their calling.

Applications are open for September, so if you know a young person who wants to build a future in Fashion, point them toward a course that gives them space to grow, real industry skills and a community that backs them.

Study for a room, 2025, etching, 18 x 13cm

To be in the world is aspatial and responsive experience, and my work explores the spaces, environments and structures I inhabit every day. This year the architecture of Studio 1.05 has fed into some of the liminal elements I use in my practice; the open doorways, large windows, false walls, and empty spaces, suggest a temporary threshold of somewhere-in-between. The pieces are almost site-specific in this sense, as I worked with the fleeting nature of our final year and distilled these feelings into images that approach permanence. The studio elements I used are akin to the simple architectural features represented in the Early Renaissance paintings of Fra Angelico, which have influenced my usage of simple linear perspective and materiality; there is a spiritual transience in his panels and predellas which tie into my ideas of impermanence. I developed this body of work, firstly by etching empty rooms onto somerset paper, then developing these into egg tempera paintings on gesso boards with veiled surfaces and faded colours - underpinned by a geometric structure. There is an absence of people and immediate narrative, yet these small-scale works encourage close viewing and contemplation, imbued with my own intimate feelings and responses to the world.

Her Slippers, 2026, Acrylic on Painting Panel, 50x50cm.

Her Home is a collection of paintings that capture details of Vera’s room. Vera was a resident in the care home I work in, and has been the focus of my work for the last few months, as I have explored the intimate relationship that develops between a carer and resident. In this new series, I explore loss, working from photographs of objects belonging to Vera left behind after she passed, focussing on the intricate and everyday details that showed her life in the care home - her glasses resting on the bedside table, the fabric of her clothes hanging neatly in her wardrobe.
Through the paintings I have done my best to reconstruct a personal space that no longer exists, showing the often-overlooked lives of the elderly members of our society are significant and leave a profound impact. The objects were deeply personal to Vera, showing her character without having to show her physical appearance. Creating a sense of ambiguity and emptiness, leaving it up to the viewer to decide who they place in this room.

I am an artist living and working in North Yorkshire. In my work, I use colour and shape to express feelings, emotions, and experiences through paint. My practice is guided by instinct and intuition, exploring how personal experience and memory can resurface in the
act of making. Drawing on my own life and experiences, I am interested in the complexity of emotion and the fragility and intangibility of the creative process, as well as with how art can act as a visual language to communicate what we cannot say with words.
This body of work explores how fleeting moments such as a glimpse of a beach, a view from a window, an internal emotional
state, or past life experiences are instinctively absorbed, transformed, and revisited through the act of making. Through the layering of paint and print, onto material, both transparent and opaque, the work not
only reveals the physical process of creation but also exposes the psychological and emotional layers that underpin it. At the heart of this exploration is the ‘flow state,’ a space where memory, intuition, and instinct converge, guiding mark-making and composition, and allowing these deeply personal moments, emotions and experiences to surface and evolve. This exhibition invites viewers to follow this journey, witnessing the unfolding of the creative process and engaging with the layered moments of experience, emotion, and reflection embedded within each piece.
