Best of luck to alumnus Matty Ashton ahead of this weekend’s Betfred Super League Grand Final!

Matty, who studied Sport with Rugby at Hopwood, is heading to Old Trafford with Warrington Wolves as they take on Wakefield Trinity on Saturday.

The flying winger has been a key part of his team's journey to the final and recently reached an incredible 100 Super League tries for Warrington.

There’s a fantastic opportunity to become an Apprentice Reinstatement Operatives with Network Plus. You won’t just work for a utility infrastructure provider that’s on a fast-paced growth trajectory, but will also earn a Level 2 Groundwork qualification. Key details:

- Salary up to £26,436.80 (depending on age)
- Must be 18+
- Full driving licence required
- 12 apprenticeship opportunities available

Responsibilities:

- Learning how to safely reinstate roads, footpaths and other surfaces after utility works
- Preparing work areas, mixing and laying materials, compacting surfaces and completing finished reinstatement work
- Supporting safe site set-up, including signing, guarding and keeping work areas tidy
- Using hand tools, equipment and small plant safely under supervision
- Working as part of a team to deliver high-quality work for customers and local communities

Congratulations to Kelly Simpson – a bride AND a graduate!

The Foundation Degree Early Years student said ‘I do’ before she and her wedding party headed straight over to our Higher Education Graduation Ceremony.

Kelly – who tied the knot with husband Daniel – wore her wedding dress as she collected her degree certificate during the ceremony held at Rochdale Town Hall.

The mum-of-two said: “It felt very extravagant wearing my dress and a graduation gown! I had an absolutely amazing day."

A packed room, including friends and family, cheered on the newlywed as she took to the stage in the Great Hall.

Among them was sister Michelle Toole, who wasn’t just a bridesmaid but was also graduating from Hopwood Hall College!

Kelly was truly a showstopper and her double celebration added even more magic to what was such a special event.

Congratulations Kelly – two huge milestones, one unforgettable day!

Our Higher Education Graduation and Awards Ceremony was an unforgettable evening at the magnificent Rochdale Town Hall.

First, a massive congratulations to our brilliant Class of 2026!

Your hard work and determination have paid off – you more than deserved your moment in the spotlight.

A big thank you to Member of Parliament for Rochdale, Paul Waugh, for joining us as our keynote speaker.

Thanks also to The Open University’s Catherine Bland and Lindsay Littlefair for joining us for the event.

Our partnership with The Open University is creating great opportunities and allowing people of all ages to complete bachelor’s degrees right here in Rochdale.

This includes Zoo Science and Wildlife Conservation graduate Emily Mills, who delivered a passionate graduates’ address – she absolutely stole the show!

It was a truly special evening celebrating the achievements of our graduates and the exciting futures that lie ahead.

Congratulations to everyone who graduated – we’re so proud of you!

It's National Manufacturing Day!

Today is all about shining a light on the people, skills and opportunities behind the UK’s manufacturing industry. We’re proud to introduce Lily, one of our Apprenticeship learners who is building her career in the industry while working at R&B Switchgear Group.

Lily’s journey is a brilliant example of how hands-on experience and learning can open the door to a rewarding career in manufacturing and engineering. From developing technical skills to gaining valuable workplace experience, she’s part of the next generation helping shape the future of the sector.

At Hopwood Hall College, we’re proud to support learners like Lily as they turn their skills and ambitions into real careers. This National Manufacturing Day, we’re celebrating the diverse opportunities available in manufacturing and encouraging the next generation to discover where a career in the industry could take them.

We’re getting ready to welcome our Higher Education graduates to the beautiful Rochdale Town Hall for a very special evening of celebration.

Tomorrow, our 2026 graduates will take to the Great Hall to mark the culmination of their hard work, dedication and achievements at Hopwood Hall College.

We can’t wait to celebrate with our students, their families and friends, and the staff who have supported them along the way.
