Induction is a chance to meet your new course mates and get to grips with campus before classes begin next week!

Induction days are on Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th for all new and progressing students!

Things to remember:
⭐ Bring your college ID lanyard if you have it
⭐ If you are getting the bus, have proof of a bus pass (either your college ID or screenshot of email confirmation)
⭐ You can check bus pick up/drop off times & locations on our website
⭐ There is the option of a free BBQ lunch
⭐ There will be outdoor activities so wear appropriate clothing for the weather
⭐ Be open to meeting new people and making friends
⭐ Have fun!

We can't wait to begin the new academic year and are excited for a new year full of new possibilities!

When Bethany Allman-Scott arrived at Reaseheath, she had a passion for wildlife and the environment, but didn’t believe a degree was within her reach.

She started on the Level 2 Environmental Conservation course, but her tutors quickly recognised her potential and encouraged her to progress to Level 3.

“I have always had a keen interest in wildlife and the environment. When I left secondary school I applied for the Level 2 Environment Conservation course. Straight away the tutors believed in me, that I had the ability to do better, so I was enrolled onto the Level 3.”

Since then, Bethany has developed her knowledge, practical skills and, most importantly, her confidence. She has now achieved her Level 3 Advanced Technical Extended Diploma in Conservation and Wildlife Management.

“This is something I never thought I would be able to achieve without the support from my course manager Jasmine Hulse, my progress coach Benjamin Stubbs and the Learning Skills Centre.”

Her assignment grades progressed from passes to distinctions as her knowledge and confidence grew.

Alongside her studies, Bethany has developed practical conservation skills, including surveying and machinery work. Her placement with Natural England has given her the chance to put these into practice, including surveying for the rare White-faced Darter dragonfly. She also discovered a rare moth during a Reaseheath BioBlitz.

Now, Bethany is taking the next step by studying BSc (Hons) Wildlife Conservation and Ecology at Reaseheath from September.

“I have never had the confidence and been given the opportunity before to believe in myself that I would achieve to go to complete a degree. Reaseheath has a fantastic support network that gave me the confidence to pursue a degree.”

After her degree, Bethany is considering a Master’s or a career in ecology. Looking back, she says she is most proud of the confidence she has gained.

“I am most proud of myself for gaining the confidence and being supported and believing in myself to follow my dreams.”

Great to see Eddisbury MP Aphra Brandreth highlighting our Food, Farming and Futures project.

Aphra recently joined us at Reaseheath to celebrate the pupils completing the programme and has since spoken about the project in the House of Commons.

The pilot has given pupils from Wrenbury Primary School and Malbank School and Sixth Form College the opportunity to explore food, farming, science and environmental careers through hands-on learning.

Thanks, Aphra, for helping shine a light on the agri-food opportunities available to the next generation.

Sophie Capper is celebrating a Merit in her T Level in Forestry and Arboriculture after building her confidence, developing her climbing skills and gaining her aerial rescue ticket at Reaseheath.

Sophie particularly enjoyed the practical sessions on her course, as well as Tree ID lessons, and says the support of staff and fellow students helped her push herself and achieve more than she thought possible. It was these skills that led to her receiving the Hawkstone Park Award for the Best Practical student at 2024's Presentation of Awards event.

One of her proudest achievements was developing her climbing skills. Having initially found climbing difficult, Sophie gradually built her confidence with the support of her tutors and classmates before going on to pass her aerial rescue ticket.

“Climbing was a hard thing for me to do at the start of my college course, but I learned from amazing staff and students and built up my confidence to become a good climber.”

Sophie also found that her time at Reaseheath helped her come out of her shell. While she initially struggled to make friends, she eventually formed strong friendships with fellow students who she says supported her throughout her time at college.

She also had to overcome challenges with some of the basic practical skills, including tying knots, but credits the dedication of her tutors with helping her learn everything she needed to succeed.

Now, Sophie is looking at her next steps, with ambitions to become a professional climber or potentially pursue a career in forestry. She also hopes to become a teacher one day.

Looking ahead, she is excited to continue learning more about trees and the wider arboriculture industry, while widening her knowledge, developing her skills and meeting new people.
