Our students had the opportunity to attend the Cheshire Ploughing Match, held at Cholmondeley this year.

The event provided a valuable opportunity to engage with the agricultural industry, build professional connections and gain first-hand insight from businesses and industry professionals across the sector.

It was a great opportunity for students to broaden their understanding beyond the classroom, connecting their academic learning with the wider agricultural industry and the current opportunities within the sector.

Last week, our Equine students ditched campus for Byley International Show Centre Equestrian Centre 🐴

Our students enjoyed an industry talk and tour with Georgie Brown, explored equine rehabilitation with veterinary physiotherapist Ruby from RPM Equine, and got up close to an aqua treadmill in action.

They analysed gait across three horses and captured footage to support their studies in Anatomy & Physiology and Equine Exercise Physiology & Biomechanics.

A brilliant opportunity to connect classroom theory with real-world equine practice.

The day was made extra special as the students joined the celebration of 6 months of the therapy centre being based at Byley International Show Centre 🥳

Microplastics have been found in samples from both pet and police dogs in research by Reaseheath lecturer Paige McCormack.

The findings raise questions about how dogs encounter these tiny particles through everyday life – from the materials around them to the things they chew – and what happens to microplastics once they enter the body.

The research is only a small study, so there are still plenty of questions to answer. But Paige says reducing plastic where possible, including considering non-plastic alternatives for toys and chews, could be a practical place for owners to start.

She'll be covering this an more in our next Reaseheath Public Lecture - From Paws to People: The Microplastic Connection, on Wednesday, October 14th.

Wildlife Conservation and Ecology student Finley Gerrard Croxon has had his photograph of a field vole, taken right here on Reaseheath campus, selected for Cheshire Wildlife Trust’s 2027 calendar.

Finley knew field voles were living around the lake, having spotted and heard them on his walks across campus. So he found a quiet spot beside the footpath and waited. For two hours.

Eventually, the vole appeared and gave Finley exactly the shot he had been hoping for.

It’s not the first time Finley’s wildlife photography has made it into a calendar, and he says his time at Reaseheath has helped him develop the observation and identification skills behind his photography.

A lovely reminder of just how much wildlife can be found around campus if you take the time to look.
