Attention all Occupational Therapy students

An opportunity to partake in another study. See below for details...

Project Overview and Aims

As a university, we have an important responsibility to ensure all newly arrived students encounter a happy and successful transition into higher education. However, research has shown that many struggle with adjusting to the expected academic and social demands. This is especially the case for mature students (defined as 21 years or older) who we know are more likely to disengage, underachieve and ultimately withdraw from their studies than younger peers. The aim of this project is to investigate the academic and social experiences of mature students as they progress through their first year at university.

Participant Eligibility

You have been invited to participate in the project as you are currently studying either a foundation (level 3) or first year (level 4) undergraduate degree programme at Northumbria University and are currently aged 21 years or above.

Commitment

Students who agree to participate in the project will undertake three separate online interviews during their first year of study with trained researchers. These will take place at a convenient time and location for you in November 2021, February 2022 and May 2022 and last approximately 30 minutes. As a note of thanks for your contribution to the project, all participating students will receive a £20 Amazon voucher upon completion of all interviews.

This is an excellent opportunity to become involved in another collaborative research project with staff and fellow students.

Please contact Rick Hayman at: [email protected] for more information

As a profession, occupational therapists are on the frontline of health equity and are uniquely placed to understand and tackle the challenges people face. Occupational therapists see health inequalities every day, supporting and helping those most in need.

The Occupational Therapy Week 2021 we are launching our new health equity campaign .

Attention all Occupational Students:

An opportunity has arisen for students to become involved in a series of ‘Talking Head’ promotional clips to be used across the faculty in future outreach activities and open day events.

You will be invited to reflect on camera upon your experiences and successes whilst studying at Northumbria.

Your insight will provide potential new students with an authentic viewpoint of what it is like to study at Northumbria.

As a university, we are committed to widening access and participation.

Specifically, we would like to demonstrate the diversity of our student population by reaching out to learners who identify as:

· Mature student (over 21 years)

· Commuter student (travel from your home to university everyday)

· Estranged student

· Student who is also a Carer

· Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic student

· Student with a Learning Disability/Disabilities

· Student with a Physical Disability/Disabilities

· Student from GRT Community

· Student who is the First Generation in their family to go to University

· Student who is a new parent

· Student with a conviction

· LGBTQIA+ student

If you would like the opportunity to tell your unique story and show the world what makes you, then please get in touch with [email protected] by 5pm on Monday 8th November 2021 for further information.

You will receive an amazon voucher as an additional thank you which will be at least £50 (but could be greater if we need more of your time!)
