Yesterday we headed to Medina College for the ‘Your Futures’ careers event. It was great to be meet lots of young people from across the island, all of whom are looking at options for their futures.

What happens when lingerie is stripped of its original purpose?

Our BA (Hons) Sustainable Fashion students are currently exploring this question through a live industry project developed in collaboration with Sian Thomas, Global Creative Director at CALIDA.

Working with end-of-life lingerie, loungewear, deadstock fabrics and surplus industry components, students are challenging conventional ideas of what these materials can become.

Through mood boards, material experimentation, textile manipulation and early design development, they are deconstructing and reimagining everything from lace, mesh and powernet to elastics, straps, fastenings and trims.

The brief? Don’t remake lingerie. Rethink it.

This carousel offers a glimpse into the research, experimentation and ideas taking shape as the projects develop — with much more still to come.
