A level Results Day
A level Success at Hazelwood Integrated College
Hazelwood Integrated College is celebrating success at A level today with 62% of students achieving 3 or more A levels A*-C and 92% of students achieving 3 or more A levels grade A*-E. This is an excellent achievement considering Awarding Organisations have ended any pandemic assessment arrangements, this has been the first year there have been no mitigations to support students, in line with the rest of the UK.
Despite a warning to schools that grades would lower, Hazelwood has in fact seen a 6% increase. Top performing students include Bethany who achieved A* AAA, Jamie who achieved AAB, Katie AAA and Ethan A*, A*, B with many more success stories.
Results this year have been excellent across the whole curriculum with subjects such as Health & Social Care, Moving Image Arts, Drama, Photography, Travel & Tourism & Sports Studies achieving 100% success at grades A*-C.
Our students are now set to embark on a new chapter of their lives with many opting for university places ranging from Queens and Ulster University to Liverpool John Moores and Staffordshire for courses such as Criminology, Law, Nursing and Software Engineering. Whilst others are following Further Education pathways such as apprenticeships and foundation courses.
Principal, Máire Thompson is delighted with the results, “I am so proud of all our students, they have shown so much resilience and determination and their hard work has paid off. I would also like to commend our teaching staff, support staff and the wider educational community for going above and beyond for our students”.

Sports Day 2024
Thankfully the weather was in good spirits this year and it was great to see everyone having such a good time.
Thank you to all the staff involved in organising and supervising the event. A huge well done to all our students, without your positivity and participation, today would not have been possible.
A fantastic day, thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Keep your eyes peeled for the video footage which will follow later tonight.
Enjoy your weekend.

Our Term 3 Rise & Thrive girls ended their programme this week in style with some afternoon tea treats.
Ms McKinley is so proud of all the girls.
These girls have earned an A* for positive contribution, 10/10 for their teamwork and distinction for just being wonderful!
Party time!
On Friday 12th April post 16 students were invited to a celebratory party for completing their digital BYTES programme during their enrichment period.
They were awarded their certificates and enjoyed the music and pizza.
They also had great fun with the DJ training provided by Giga Training (Multimedia Training specialists) and the Virtual Reality sets.
A big thank you to Mark and the BYTES team for organising the event and for delivering the programme throughout the year.
Thank you to everyone who attended the launch of our Hazelwood Help Hub yesterday. This centralised online hub provides up to date information on services specifically within the North Belfast and Newtownabbey areas for parents/carers and the wider community to independently access support when they need it.
The online hub is now LIVE and can be accessed via our College Website with the following link:

As World Book Day 2024 drew to a close, the Hazelwood staff got to thinking about some of their favourite books. Enjoy a round up of their recommended reads- maybe you'll find something to inspire you!
Today was the first both Hazelwood Integrated College and Mercy College students worked together as part of the programme. A fantastic opportunity for the students to meet new friends, increase communication and team work skills whilst playing sport.
Six students from each school will be selected to form a ‘Cavehill’ select team for the Cuchulainn Cup on the 21st March where they will compete in Gaelic Football and Hurling.
Well done all - Mr Hanvey. 🏐
We were delighted to welcome Nalongo African Music and Dance Band to the College today as part of Féile an Phobail’s Good Relations and Community Engagement activities. Our Year 8 students had a wonderful time experiencing music from different ethnic groups and engaging with the band members about music, culture & experiences.
