Happy 8th Birthday, Jin!

Jin celebrated her 8th birthday over the weekend, and what better way to continue the celebrations than with a birthday swim!

She came in yesterday and enjoyed lots of extra treats to make her birthday even more special.

Merry has graduated… again!

A huge well done to Merry, our latest FPAT graduate!

We first met Merry in 2024 following a suspected rupture of her right hindlimb cruciate ligament. She successfully completed her rehabilitation with us then, so we were delighted to welcome her back to help with her left hindlimb!

When we first saw Merry this time around, following a suspected left cruciate ligament rupture, she was hopping around on three legs. Fast forward a few months of weekly physiotherapy/ hydrotherapy, alongside the fantastic work from her owners in following her home exercise plan, and what a transformation! We are all so pleased with how far Merry has come and couldn’t be prouder of her.

Our team spent some valuable time with Dr James Carrier over the weekend getting to know more about PainTrace technology and how he uses it during his pain clinics.

Pain can be difficult to assess in our pets as they can’t tell us where it hurts or how much it hurts, and they can be very good at hiding discomfort. PainTrace gives us another valuable tool by providing an objective measurement of pain, helping us identify painful areas, understand the level of pain and monitor how this changes following treatment.

What can you expect during a PainTrace assessment?

Sensors are gently applied to your dog’s skin before Dr Carrier carries out a thorough orthopaedic assessment. We can then look at their response to different areas being examined, as well as activities such as walking, trotting or sitting-to-standing.

The results give us a visual picture of your pet’s pain response. Over future visits, we can compare the results to help monitor progress and see how they are responding to treatment.

We met the lovely Rosie last week, who did brilliantly during her physiotherapy assessment. Rosie has osteoarthritis, and her owners are keen to support her comfort, mobility, and quality of life as she enjoys her senior years.

Following a full physiotherapy assessment, Rosie was treated with soft tissue massage and LASER therapy to help relieve pain and reduce muscular tension. We also sent her owners home with tailored exercises and advice to help support her day-to-day life. Her rehabilitation plan will include hydrotherapy, which will help improve her muscle strength, support her joints, and keep her moving as comfortably as possible.
Well done Rosie, we can’t wait to see you back for your next session!

Hydrotherapy isn’t just for injury rehabilitation…

Meet the very handsome Scruffy, a Wire-Haired Standard Dachshund who comes to see us for fitness and fun sessions!

Scruffy’s owners are taking a proactive approach to his health, helping him stay as strong, fit, and mobile as possible so he can enjoy his senior years to the fullest. Using the underwater treadmill, we’ve been working on building muscle mass, improving joint range of motion, and maintaining his overall strength and fitness. And can we all take a moment to appreciate his adorable dinosaur drying coat? I think you’ll agree it suits him perfectly!

Duncan hasn’t had the easiest few weeks after some unexpected trips to the vets, but we’re so pleased to say he’s now on the road to recovery.

It’s always a pleasure to see Duncan, and we can’t wait to welcome him back for a birthday splash!
