Our Level 3 Year 1 and 2 Animal Management students are coming to the end of their once-in-a-lifetime trip to South Africa, where they have left the Nambiti Big 5 Conservation Research Reserve behind. ๐Ÿ†

On their last full day at Nambiti, the group were lucky enough to see the endangered black rhino on a rhino survey, and while predator monitoring they spotted a cheetah with her cubs...we are all very jealous back home! ๐Ÿฆ

They then made their way to Zingela Wildlife Reserve, helping to support the Zingela Conservation Research Progrogramme. The reserve covers a whopping 12,500 acres of predator free, pristine African bushveld. Their time at Zingela has involved everything from hiking and paddling on the river, to giraffe surveying and going out into the local community to practice their animal management skills.

Our students have had such a fantastic time in South Africa, learning invaluable skills and creating memories to last a lifetime! ๐Ÿฅฐ

Our Level 3 Year 1 and 2 Animal Management students are on a fantastic educational adventure in South Africa! ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿ†๐ŸฆŽ

Our students are spending 10 days working across two reserves - starting at the Nambiti Big 5 Conservation Research Reserve, a magnificent 23,000 acres of unspoiled wilderness boasting the Big 5 and incredible biodiversity.

Our students are working alongside field guides and the conservation team, carrying out tasks such as reserve maintenance, elephant and rhino monitoring, anti-poaching awareness, camera trapping, bush walks and herbivore condition and health checks.

This is a great opportunity for our students to put into practice the knowledge learnt at college into a real world situation, whilst supporting local community projects! ๐Ÿ’ช

Inclusive Learning students and staff, and invited guests, came together yesterday to celebrate the official opening of Growing Grounds! ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŽ‰

With a smart new allotment and tree nursery (with close to 500 trees now growing), Growing Grounds is a brilliant outdoor learning resource for our students to develop horticultural, life and employability skills.

Green-fingered students on our Ticket, Future Aspirations, and Rural Enterprise courses are opening future possible employment pathways here. Whatโ€™s more, Growing Grounds is available to all our Inclusive Learning groups to benefit from, or simply to visit as a wellbeing space.

The transformation of this corner of our campus has been made possible thanks to Karen Dunlop and colleagues, and their students, who have worked incredibly hard over the past 3 years to turn the Growing Grounds vision into reality. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Weโ€™re also extremely grateful to the Norfolk Community Foundation, Dudgeon Community Fundโ€™s STEM Programme, and Norfolk County Council, for grant funding, and to The Tree Council for donating trees to help get the tree nursery up and running. ๐Ÿ™

And finally, our thanks to Sir Thomas Hughes-Hallett, who joined some of the students in planting an apricot tree to mark the occasion. ๐ŸŒฑ
