Huge thanks to everyone who came along to our screening!

Our screenings usually combine both film and digital projection, and it is always a pleasure to offer audiences the unique experience of watching a work on film - our Eiki projector had a great outing yesterday.

We’re also celebrating 50 years of the Film Archive in 2026, and we’re planning a special anniversary screening in June.

To be among the first to receive details about this and future events, you can sign up to our e newsletter online:

Huge thanks to everyone who came along to our film screening! It was brilliant to see such a great turnout, and especially lovely to have so many of you stay for the Q&A with the Institute of Amateur Cinematographer’s (IAC) Archivist - your questions made it an engaging session.

It was great to see our trusty Eiki projector is still working beautifully.

Want to watch more amateur films? Head to our website and browse by genre using the search menu.

And if you’re not signed up to our newsletter yet, now’s a good time as we’re about to announce our next event to celebrate EAFA’s 50th anniversary year - subscribers are usually the first to hear about upcoming events. Sign-up link is on our website.

LGBTQ+ History Month: Community Curating with Q***r Norfolk

February is LGBTQ+ History Month and we thought now would be a great time to update you on our Community Curating project partnership with Q***r Norfolk. The project aims to promote the preservation of LGBTQ+ history by collaborating with community groups across Norfolk.

Since launching the project back in the Autumn, we have held workshops in Norwich and Great Yarmouth and have others planned in Kings Lynn and Thetford. At the workshops we have watched and discussed some films from our collection together and explored strategies for preserving q***r heritage for the future.

We have also been looking at EAFA’s collection, and have found some wonderful material, including a collection of beautiful films made in the 1950s and 1960s by a gay filmmaker (image). Look out for further details of public screenings in the next EAFA Newsletters and posts.

It’s not too late to join us for the King’s Lynn and Thetford workshops! For more information and to register to attend, please contact us - email [email protected]

❄️ With the Winter Olympics in full swing, here’s a perfect throwback to East Anglia’s own icy sporting tradition…

🎥 One to Watch: Playing Bandy on Womack Staithe (c.1960, 16mm, amateur film)
Cat. No. 231192

In this amateur film, the Claxton family and friends take to the frozen waterways of Fenland East Anglia to play bandy — an ice‑skating team sport that looks a lot like ice hockey but swaps the puck for a ball. Filmed on naturally frozen, flooded landscapes, it captures a slice of local winter history and the joy of fen skating at its best.
