The One to Watch award is for the person who’s really stood out from the crowd this year. And the winner is someone who not only pushes herself journalistically as well as creatively – but is always on hand to support others. Never afraid to ask a question or offer to help out – and always professional, this student has received a number of nominations from her peers. They recognise her work as a brilliant student rep and for how she makes others feel included at all times. The one to watch awards goes to Erin Anderson with Jake Humphrey picture by Zak Davies.

Shout out to the winner of the UEA Journalism award for Technical Skills who has shown a huge variety of skills when filming and editing video and manipulating audio. He is so knowledgeable, that he’s taught us a thing or two – and is often seen helping others in his class to learn new tips and tricks. His vertical video was a piece of art – creatively knitting together sound, video and a compelling interview to tell a story powerfully and differently. Congratulations pictured with Jake Humphreys. Well done to the winners of the group podcast award 2026. Erin and Charli picked up the award and got to meet Jake Humphry. Also on the team were George and Matilda, who couldn't make it. The winners came up with a really creative idea for a podcast, which was to try out new hobbies. In ‘The Hobbyists’ first episode George and Charli went birdwatching, Tilly gave us some fantastic facts and Erin interviewed the appropriately named twitcher Andy Sparrow. Well done and

Congratulations to the winner of the UEA Journalism award for best individual podcast 2026. Pete Barry returned to study later in life and over the past two years, has combined his job as a teacher while undertaking a demanding Master's degree. His podcast confronts something which men often ignore at their peril - loneliness and the inability to talk about sensitive matters. "Lonely Connect" tells the tale of a music club for people who meet, swap stories and support one another. Pete is pictured with Jake Humphry who presented our awards. Photo credit: Zak Davies.

Congratulations to UEA Journalism graduate Rithula Nisha who is a finalist in the National Royal Television Society Student Awards 2026.

Her documentary ‘Ghosts in the Machine’ investigates a hacking epidemic that includes children being recruited into cybercrime and the devastating impact of sextortion. Featuring the perspective of a former black-hat hacker, it reveals the unseen human costs of our increasingly connected world.

Rithula is now a Project Editor, Tech, AI and Cyber Portfolio at Bizclik, London. She says: "When I first decided to throw my hat in the Journalism ring, sitting in a remote corner in India, I never thought my career would get such a great start!

“All I had when I came into the Digital and Broadcast Journalism Masters course was a vague dream and a sense of direction, but no real mapped out plan. But being exposed to all the different aspects of journalism through the duration of my course, I found certain things that called out to me. Picking up the camera to film my documentary was one of the most challenging yet most rewarding projects that I encountered. This would remain true even without this recognition. I enjoyed the process of turning what existed as a vison in my head to something real. This course equipped me with the tools to do that.

“I feel extremely grateful for the nomination and I cannot thank all my UEA advisors, staff and peers, who have always been helpful and supportive."

What an exclusive! Stewart White, the former presenter of BBC Look East for 37 years, has spoken exclusively to UEA Journalism about the stories behind the headlines. He was speaking ahead of the official launch of his memoir 'See you at 6.30' and raised concerns about the future of journalism saying: “We are living in very very dangerous times, when politicians claim that anything that doesn’t stroke their ego is fake news and refuse to be challenged, people banning journalists because the journalist is asking a question they don't want to hear, I think we're then heading to a state in the world we don't want to be."
