Get paid to inspire – go back to your sixth form with ‘Reunion’

Want to earn extra cash, boost your CV, and inspire students at your old sixth form or college? With Reunion, you’ll get paid to share your UEA story, all while building presentation skills that will impress future employers.

- What is Reunion?
Remember sitting in sixth form wondering what university would really be like? The Reunion programme pays you to deliver a talk about university life for your old sixth form or college, to help the students there to make informed decisions about their future.

- Get paid for your story
You will be paid for four hours of work at £12.84/hour (so just over £50 in total, or £77 for six hours work if you deliver an optional second talk). Unfortunately, we’re not able to reimburse travel costs for Reunion, so we recommend arranging your talk for a time when you’ll be at home anyway.

- Support every step of the way
We’re here to support you – from contacting your sixth form or college to knowing what to cover in your talk. We will provide a PowerPoint template to guide you, but you'll be able to adapt this to tell your own personal story.

Norwich History Festival is back for its second year, celebrating the rich and vibrant history of Norwich and beyond. This year’s theme of “Why History Matters” seeks to explore the importance of history in modern society. With an exciting lineup of 34 talks, 30 walks, and a series of other events across the city from 14 to 24 July, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Since 2023 Charlie Higson has hosted a weekly history podcast about the British monarchy called Willie, Willie, Harry, Stee, and a companion book of the series was published last October. Broadcaster and naturalist Chris Packham visited UEA this week for an event held to celebrate 100 years of Norfolk Wildlife Trust. When asked for one thing on campus that students shouldn’t miss, Chris spoke about the importance of taking time to connect with nature.

He said: “They shouldn’t miss taking some time out from their busy schedules, whether that’s socialising or studying, to come out here and just sit in nature.

“You’re very fortunate to have spaces like this. Even this little glade here, with these mature pine trees and birds singing, it’s a place where you can properly take a break.

“We know that being in nature, being in green spaces, and listening to birdsong is a great way of inducing calm and reducing anxiety. So just take ten minutes a day to come out here and soak it up. Do a little bit of forest bathing. You’ll go back into your lectures in a better frame of mind and in a better place to make progress.”
