πŸŽ“ Transforming Education Awards 2026 πŸŽ“

We are proud to share the outstanding achievements of our School of Economics community at this year’s Transforming Education Awards.

Congratulations to our award winners:

β€’ Jay – Convenor of the Year

β€’ Charlie – Student Education Partnership Member of the Year

β€’ Pemma – Academic Community Contribution Award

Each of these recognitions reflects a shared commitment to bringing people together, driving meaningful change and caring deeply about the student experience.

We also celebrate our shortlisted nominees:

β€’ Zeyu Chen and Kareem Bahgat – Inclusivity Champion Award, recognising their work in embedding equity, diversity and inclusion into teaching and learning environments

β€’ Oana Borcan – PhD Supervisor of the Year, for exceptional guidance, support and impact on doctoral students

β€’ Bahar Ghezelayagh – UG Advisor of the Year, acknowledging dedicated student support

In addition, the School of Economics was nominated for its strong sense of community and staff-student partnership - an award we have proudly won for two years.

Being shortlisted among more than 500 nominations is a remarkable achievement - but to win in three categories is truly remarkable.

Together, these successes highlight the meaningful contributions our community makes to enhancing student education and experience.

Congratulations to the School of Economics Zigguarat Challege Team!

The economics team managed to come second overall, missing out due to a fantastic performance by BIO.

The school came first in three events (Pool, Sitting Volleyball and Bench Ball), and came top three in most events.

Our Head of School, Professor Emiliya Lazarova, came third in the staff champion category. Whilst Dr. Peter Dawson came first (for the fifth year running!) in the staff Champion Category.

The school also came first in the plate award for accuracy!

Overall the 2026 Ziggurat Challenge was a massive success, and we can't wait to participate again next year!
