In 2012, UEA was named the 10th best university in the world under 50 years old and ranked 1st for student satisfaction by the Times Higher Education magazine in 2013. In 2017 it is currently ranked 12th in the UK (Complete University guide national rankings), comfortably within Europe's top 100 and within the top 1% in the world. It's research is considered world leading. Famous alumni include Sir Paul Nurse (Nobel Prize winner and President of the Royal Society), Prime Minister Tupou IV (King Of Tonga), John Rhys-Davies (actor seen in the Indiana Jones, 007, The Lord of the Rings film series), and Ian McEwan (Booker prize winning author).
