The Language Centre is a dynamic teaching unit offering high quality language learning to more than 1200 students from all departments across the University.

Since its establishment in 1991 the Language Centre has grown steadily and developed to become what it is today: a dynamic teaching unit offering high quality language learning to more than 1200 students from all departments across the University. A small proportion of students follow a degree course with a compulsory language element. The majority, however, choose a language as an optional module and can either begin a new language or improve existing language skills. The Language Centre also offers a programme of evening classes (fee paying) that is becoming bigger and more popular each year. New and exciting times lie ahead for the Language Centre with the development of distance learning MA programmes.Through its modules, the Language Centre makes a valuable contribution to the University’s agenda of Internationalisation.

The verb LIMONARE in Italian comes from the noun LIMONE (lemon) but has nothing to do with the acidic citrus fruit! On the contrary the meaning of LIMONARE is quite sweet as it means 'to kiss someone with passion, to make out'. The etymology is not clear but it may come from the fact that lemons used to be sold in pairs. It is conjugated like a regular-ARE verb.

International day of the tiger. A day to celebrate this magnificent animal and raise awareness about the dangers that tigers face. How do you say 'tiger' in your language? 🐯👍

Goethe is the 'German Shakespeare'. He also gave his name to the Goethe Institute which promotes German culture abroad and offers language classes.

The poem translates roughly to:
What then is science?"
It is only the power of life.
You do not produce life,
Life must first give life.
