Held on Friday, 13 February, 2026, at Derby Medical School, the event was a resounding success 👏

The showcase saw over 100 students from the BMedSci and Graduate Entry Medicine programmes present their work in a vibrant poster session. This provided a valuable platform for students to engage with peers, family, and academic staff, sharing their findings and insights.

The diverse range of research topics highlighted the breadth of student research projects, encompassing:

📌Anatomy, Physiology, and Human Health
📌Cancer and Translational Medicine
📌Education, Ethics, and Healthcare System
📌Infectious Disease
📌Maternal and Child Health
📌Neurology & Neuroscience

💡Adding to the showcase, select students delivered concise three-minute “flash talks,” followed by engaging question-and-answer sessions with the audience.

💥The successful event concluded with closing remarks from Professor Danny McLaughlin, Dean of Medical Education at the University of Lincoln, and Professor KL Cheung, Deputy Head of Education and Director of the BMBS Medicine Programmes at the University of Nottingham.

Getting stuck into mucus to find new treatments for severe asthma

Experts in respiratory medicine have received funding to better understand how mucus is controlled in the lungs and how it contributes to severe asthma.

This could lead to the development of new treatments which would impact millions of people worldwide.

The team of international researchers, led by Professor Ian Sayers in the School of Medicine in the Biodiscovery Institute at the University of Nottingham, have been awarded a £3M Medical Research Council (MRC) Programme Grant.

The group is a collaboration of experts from the Universities of Nottingham, Leicester, Manchester, Leeds, Imperial College London and the biopharmaceutical company AstraZeneca.

2025 was an extraordinary year for PRIMIS

Against a backdrop of internal and external change, there was much to celebrate and be proud of. The PRIMIS Annual Review 2025 reflects how the team marked 25 years of innovation and excellence in primary care health informatics.

During the year, PRIMIS expanded their national and international reach, including new collaborations with the University of Adelaide and the Mayo Clinic. They continued to foster innovation and collaboration, supporting research, national healthcare initiatives and industry partners both locally and nationally. It was also an award-winning year.

PRIMIS received the John Perry Prize from the British Computer Society’s Primary Health Care Specialist Group and built on longstanding partnerships and developed new ones. Many respected collaborators and peers have generously contributed their perspectives to this publication.

The team are delighted to share PRIMIS – A Year in Review with you.
