We’re shining a light on inspirational Edge Hill teaching alumnus Dafydd Helps-Fursse, who is preparing to take on an incredible South Pole expedition in support of men’s mental health.

Just two years after rowing across the Atlantic in one of the world’s toughest endurance challenges, Dafydd is setting his sights on another extraordinary feat — tackling a crossing of the South Pole. His career and adventures have taken him around the world, but Dafydd says Edge Hill remains a place that feels like home and played an important role in shaping both his personal and professional journey.

🎓 Dafydd graduated from Edge Hill in 2014 with a BSc (Hons) Science with Physics with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), having secured his place through Clearing. Reflecting on his time at Edge Hill, Dafydd said: “Edge Hill is a home. It’s a place I could walk around comfortably now. I would recommend attending Edge Hill to any student seeking a university education somewhere they are supported, accepted and challenged to grow. I always found the staff really cared for the students and wanted to make a positive contribution to society.”

Today is National Secondhand Wardrobe Day, a great time to think about the value of giving clothes a second life ♻️.

At Edge Hill, our Interview Clothing Collection does just that – helping students access smart, professional looks for interviews, placements or work, all while keeping donated clothes in use.

The collection is made possible through donations from staff, students and the wider community, with students able to choose an outfit and get access to tailored careers and interview support alongside it. Since launching, more than 200 students have accessed the service 👗👔.

So, this National Secondhand Wardrobe Day, why not consider donating something you no longer wear, giving it a chance to be part of someone else’s story. We are accepting donations of smart clothes, accessories and shoes that would be acceptable for an interview or suitable work wear. Please drop donations at Catalyst helpdesk.

It’s tempting to look for just one answer to the future of food production in an ever-changing climate, but the reality is much more complicated.

In a recent article for The Conversation, Sven Batke, Associate Head of Biology: Research and Knowledge Exchange, looks at a question that is becoming increasingly important as our climate becomes less predictable.

For those local to Edge Hill, this is a particularly relevant conversation. Farming is an important part of Lancashire’s landscape, economy and communities, from livestock and dairy farming to the crops grown across rural areas. As farmers face changing weather patterns and increasing pressures on food production, the choices made about how and where to grow food could have a real impact locally.

“There is nothing that I would do differently.”

After making the decision she no longer wanted to attend her first-choice university, Libby Childs entered Clearing. She started to research universities, and although Edge Hill hadn’t originally been included in her top five, she discovered that it offered a combined course that was much better suited to her.

“Once I found Edge Hill I fell in love with it and decided that I was going to apply there through Clearing,” says Libby. “The process for applying was so simple and very easy. Once I had sent my application off to Edge Hill they had responded within an hour.”

It was wonderful to welcome so many prospective students and their supporters to campus today. 💜

Attendees had the opportunity to explore our facilities, meet members of the EHU family and experience first-hand what makes our university such a special place to study.
