Oxford Syria Society

Oxford Syria Society We seek to promote a space that respects and uplifts the voices of Syrians of all backgrounds and stories.

The Oxford Syria Society is dedicated to the development of a space that brings Syrians together and engages the wider Oxford community with Syrian society, cultures, peoples, and politics in the University of Oxford. The Society’s main objective is to create and develop a platform that brings all Syrians together and engages the wider Oxford community with Syrian society, culture, peoples, and po

litics. We seek to promote a platform that highlights the diversity that Syrians bring to the world, particularly the diversity of opinions, religions, cultures, ethnicities, genders, sexualities, and socioeconomic backgrounds. While many of us are Syrians, we welcome everyone with a deep connection to Syria, spanning from those Syrians who have lived abroad for generations to those who are meaningfully committed to knowing about the country’s history, culture, and people. We recognize that some of the conversations we may have in this space are politically sensitive, especially because of the country’s fractured and polarized reality. Therefore, we adopt Chatham House rules in our discussions and events. We also remain committed to basic, universally established facts on the Syrian ground, including recognizing the tragic events committed by all parties of the war, which deeply offended the basic dignity of the Syrian people.
