Do Summer Safely – we’re supporting Counter Terrorism Policing’s summer campaign.

We’re supporting Counter Terrorism Policing’s Summer campaign. The campaign is encouraging the public to look out for each other, trust their instincts and report anything that doesn’t feel right.

The key advice is:

- If you see something that doesn’t feel right report it to security or online at gov.uk/ACT. In an emergency dial 999.
- Trust your instincts, you won’t be wasting our time.
- Anyone can complete the ACT e-Learning on ProtectUK, this will help you be prepared in the event of a terrorist attack.

🦈🚫 Stop Loan Sharks Week 🚫🦈

If money worries are affecting you, remember: illegal money lenders (“loan sharks”) are never the answer.

Loan sharks may:
❌ Offer quick cash with no paperwork
❌ Use threats or intimidation
❌ Add unfair interest and hidden charges
❌ Take bank cards, passports, or valuables as security

At university, it’s important to know that support is available if you’re struggling financially.

💡 If you need help:

- Speak to your university support services.
- Reach out to trusted friends or family.
- Get free confidential advice from official organisations.
- Never feel pressured into borrowing from someone you don’t trust.

The Security Team will be holding a FREE mobile phone marking event today at The Forum, between 1:00 - 3:00pm, as part of our Protect Your Belongings campaign across Oxford Brookes University campuses and student accommodation.

🎓✈️ Heading home for the summer? Don’t forget to keep yourself and your space safe before you go!

🔐 Secure Your Residence

Lock all doors and windows—even if they seem secure
Set your alarm if you have one
Ask a trusted neighbour or flatmate to keep an eye on things

🔌 Turn Off Electronics

- Unplug chargers, hair straighteners, and non-essential devices
Leave only essentials like your fridge/freezer running

💻 Protect Your Valuables

- Register your devices (IMEI/serial numbers) on Immobilise (free UK register)
- Keep valuables out of sight

⚠️ Stay Aware

- Avoid walking alone in unfamiliar or poorly lit areas at night
Trust your instincts if something feels off, step away and seek help
- Be mindful of what you share on social media (especially your location)

📱 Stay Connected

- Keep your phone charged
- Let a trusted contact know your travel plans and return date

Good nights out start with good choices!
Keep an eye on your drink, check in on your friends, and speak up if something doesn’t feel right.
We’re all in this together 💙

Be aware of different types of spiking:
• Drink spiking: adding substances to drinks
• Needle spiking: unexpected or unexplained injections
• V**e spiking: sharing vapes that may contain unknown substances
• Chewing gum/candy spiking: being offered items that may be tampered with

If you ever feel suddenly unwell or “not yourself,” tell a friend and seek help immediately.
