A welfare workshop with an ancient twist!

Led by our Tutor in Old Testament and Hebrew Bible, Dr John Screnock, students and staff learned about cuneiform: a form of writing in clay that used a stylus to make wedge shapes. They practiced writing blessings and names in Ugaritic, the language of a city-state on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, in present-day Syria.

Chine McDonald is Director of think tank Theos; a regular contributor to TV and radio; vice-chair of the Greenbelt festival; Canon Theologian at Chester Cathedral; and the author of God Is Not A White Man: and Other Revelations (Hodder Faith, 2021).

She's joining us next week to launch her new book, Unmaking Mary: Shattering the Myth of Perfect Motherhood.

The book explores the unrealistic pressures on mothers today, and how art, literature, culture and society (including the depiction of the Virgin Mary) have perpetuated β€˜the myth of perfect motherhood’ – and what we can do to free ourselves from it.
