As part of College’s ongoing commitment to supporting Modern Languages, we have launched an appeal to raise £100k to support German Language teaching in College. Reduced funding, rising costs and policy changes have impacted the pipeline of the subject considerably, with German being the subject most at risk. Strategically, this is the time for investment and we are looking to alumni and friends to support us as we build resilience for the future. Jesus College is delighted to announce the election of eight new Honorary Fellows to the College Fellowship. An Honorary Fellowship is one of the highest honours conferred by the College’s Governing Body, and recognises alumni, former members, associates and friends of the College who have achieved distinction in public or professional life.

This year’s recipients are historian Professor Patricia Clavin FRHistS FBA, ecologist Professor Sir Charles Godfray CBE FRS, digital rights advocate Baroness Beeban Kidron OBE, actor, playwright and director Kwame Kwei-Armah OBE, Executive Director of the Royal Society Dame Julie Maxton DBE, lawyer Keith Schilling, computer scientist and former College Principal Professor Sir Nigel Shadbolt FRS FREng FBCS, and interdisciplinary researcher Professor Dame Molly Stevens DBE FRS FREng FRPharm.

Last week, College alumni and friends came together for a special Oktoberfest Dinner to celebrate the remarkable contribution of Professor Katrin Kohl, Fellow and Tutor in German, following her retirement, and to launch a new appeal to support German teaching at Jesus.
