Developing a Christian Mind at Oxford

Developing a Christian Mind at Oxford The second conference meets within discipline streams and focuses in on key questions within each field of study.

The aim of Developing a Christian Mind is to support and enrich the community of Christian scholars - both graduate students and faculty - at the University of Oxford and beyond. Developing a Christian Mind’s programme is structured around two annual conferences: ‘Christianity and the Life of the Mind: An Introduction’ and ‘Seeking Wisdom: Discipline Streams.’ The first conference offers an introd

uction to the relationship between core theological doctrines and academic disciplines. This gives space to explore specific methodologies and approaches from a perspective of faith.

This year's Natural and Medical Sciences stream is focusing on Spin-Outs, Start-Ups, and Tech Entrepreneurship!

Featuring multiple panels of tech entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and people who work in ministry to the business world, we'll be exploring how our faith integrates with tech start-up culture from all angles. We'll also have talks by research scientists on how they've thought about applying their work practically, and the pitfalls and opportunities they've experienced while doing so.

What does the renewal of our minds look like when we're studying philosophy, theology, or religious studies? What difference might it make that the object of our research is also present with us and working in us? What insights do Christian thinkers from the past have to offer for engaging with the 21st century university?

Come and explore these questions and more at DCM's Philosophy and Theology stream! We'll be hearing from:
Markus Bockmuehl, Dean Ireland's Professor of the Exegesis of Holy Scripture, Keble College
Mark Wynn, Nolloth Professor of the Philosophy of the Christian Religion, Oxford
Jack Levison, W. J. A. Power Chair of Old Testament Interpretation and Biblical Hebrew, Southern Methodist University
Priscilla Pope-Levison, Research Professor of Practical Theology, Southern Methodist University
