Thank you to all those that got involved with Giving Day this year, we are so grateful for your generous support. We are happy that Giving Day really was a global affair with 35 countries participating. It was also fun to see which decades really stepped up for Oriel, and this year, the “Most Committed” title was taken by the 70s. We hope you will join us as we celebrate 700 years very soon.

Oriel College Chapel Choir has completed recording sessions with Convivium Records at Keble Chapel for a commemorative CD marking its 700th anniversary in 2026.

The CD will reflect Oriel’s ongoing contribution to choral music with music from the period of the college’s foundation to the present day. Scheduled for release in January 2026, the launch of the CD will begin a series of events celebrating Oriel’s history since its founding in 1326.

Oriel College has completed recording sessions in collaboration with Convivium Records in preparation for a commemorative CD marking its 700th anniversary in 2026.

This year’s Garden Play, produced, staged and performed by students, will be an adaptation of Terry Pratchett’s classic Discworld novel Going Postal. The performance dates of Going Postal at Oriel College are 12, 13 and 14 June, and performances start at 7.15pm.

Elizabeth Farrand, the director, says she chose the Going Postal adaptation because she has seen “a lot of fun plays” in Oxford, “but no Discworld”. “It makes a relentlessly fast-paced and witty play for a summer evening,” she adds.

Patra (Urairat), a second-year English student at Oriel College, has recently released a Spotify single “Aftercare”. The single has already attracted 18,000 monthly listeners.

Patra’s ability to balance her academic and musical passions continues to drive her forward. “My two passions are my music and my love for English, and my passion does not run out,” she says.

Lord Mendoza CBE, Provost of Oriel College, will be a member of the government’s newly launched UK Soft Power Council.

Neil says, “I am keen on the effective use of soft power. This new initiative brings together leaders in culture, sport, higher education, creative industries and the judiciary. The Soft Power Council has immense potential. I am thrilled to be a member so that we can work jointly, with the Foreign Secretary and Culture Secretary to develop and implement strategies to meet the UK’s foreign policy aims.”

As the Provost of one of the oldest colleges at the University of Oxford and the Chairman of Historic England, Neil will bring expertise in education, culture and heritage to the council.

Justas Petrauskas (2021) has become the first Orielensis PPEist elected to an All Souls Fellowship since the current All Souls Warden Sir John Vickers (1976) was elected in 1979.

One of the most exclusive and prestigious Fellowships in academia, the college normally elects two fellows from 150 or more candidates. An All Souls Examination Fellowship is for seven years and cannot be renewed.
