Weโ€™ve just said a warm farewell to the second of our two visiting groups from St Mary of the Hills in Argentina ๐Ÿ‘‹๐ŸŒ During their week at St Clareโ€™s, they took part in our British Culture and TOK course, explored Oxfordโ€™s museums and landmarks, joined our Higher Education fair, and got involved in CAS sports. The week ended with a TOK exhibition, where they shared their ideas with their peers.

It was a pleasure hosting both groups - we wish all of the students every success in their future studies and hope to welcome them back again soon! ๐Ÿ’™

Today is Ada Lovelace Day, a celebration of women in science, technology, engineering and maths! ๐Ÿ”ฌ Itโ€™s named after Ada Lovelace, whose 1840s notes on Charles Babbageโ€™s Analytical Engine include what is often described as the first computer program, and it honours women working in every corner of STEM.

At St Clareโ€™s, we wanted to hear from some of those women in our own community. Our teachers and students talk about the subjects they love, what pulled them towards STEM in the first place, and where they hope it takes them. They also share advice for any woman weighing up a STEM path of her own.

We welcomed the Oxford HOOPS YBL Blue Team to St Clareโ€™s on Friday for a friendly scrimmage, with six games played in 10-minute segments. ๐Ÿ€

Our team made a strong start and stayed in control throughout, winning by around 20 points thanks to great teamwork, communication and quick ball movement!

Just as impressive was the attitude on show from both sides. Players supported one another, respected their opponents and officials, and played with real maturity and enthusiasm.

Thanks to Oxford HOOPS for a fantastic session, and well done to all involved! ๐Ÿ‘

As always, we love welcoming alumni back to St Clare's! ๐Ÿ’™ It was an absolute pleasure to reconnect with Charley Fan (IB01), who visited us this week with his younger sister Julia. Charley also had the chance to catch up with his personal tutor, Vicky Watson, which made the visit even more special!

A blue plaque celebrating Alec Peterson (left), widely regarded as the founder of the IB Diploma, was unveiled in Headington on 26 September.

Alec was chairman of governors at St Clare's, and his support helped bring the IB to the school. He went on to become the first director of the International Baccalaureate Organisation in Geneva, and the programme is now taught in more than 6,000 schools across over 160 countries.

As the oldest IB school in the UK, we're proud of the part we played in that story. When we introduced the programme in the 1970s, St Clare's was described as a "pioneer" for adopting it, and the IB still sits at the heart of our values of openness, respect and international mindedness.
