2021/22 Season Review
What an incredible year we’ve had!
The aftermath of COVID-19 took its toll on our club as recruitment proved to be a large issue. On top of this, after many of the boys graduating in 2020, the 2021 season started with very few numbers (not enough to field a 9’s team, let alone the weekly 13 aside team!).
However, after a monstrous recruitment effort, we managed to gather a far larger squad of keen lads, many of whom had never played rugby league before.
This was not an issue.
Come rain or come shine, the boys honed in on their skills, driving OBURL to many hard-fought victories.
We finished a close 3rd in the league and triumphed on Varsity against Reading, beating them 40-28. We also had many talented players represent the England South Eastern Universities team and the England Southern Universities team.
Our achievements this season have been remarkable and have exceeded expectations, considering we lacked in numbers and experience at the very beginning of the season.
As for the upcoming season, we start with more players, all with at least a year’s experience under their belts. We fully intend to do even better this year, and continue our unbeaten record at Varsity in spring.
Thank you to all our wonderful, loyal supporters who are there week in, week out, screaming for us on the sidelines - we can’t wait to impress you next year with more victories! But also, best of luck to all the now Old-Bulls who graduated this year. You would not believe the impact you’ve had on the club and all the lads wish you great success.
