Join us for Music for a Summer’s Evening 🌿🎶

On Saturday 13 June, the Choir of The Queen’s College returns with one of our favourite events of the year: an evening of choral music celebrating nature and the joys of summertime.

Featuring works by contemporary composers including Morten Lauridsen, Eric Whitacre, John Rutter, and Ben Parry, the concert begins in the Chapel before moving into the gardens for madrigals, partsongs, and a ca****la arrangements accompanied by a glass of wine included in the ticket price. ✨🍷

✨ Poetry across time, myth, and imagination ✨

Join Old Members Sasha Dugdale and Olivia McCannon for an evening of poetry and discussion exploring their latest collections, 'The Lives of Z' and 'The Strongbox'.

📖 These works look backwards and forwards to ask what was, what is, and what might be. Drawing on myth, history, and cultural inheritance, both poets uncover stories whose influence is felt, even when unseen.

Both writers are also literary translators and they will discuss how the craft of translation guides their creative work.

🏆 Sasha Dugdale’s 'The Strongbox' (2024) has already won the Anglo-Hellenic League Runciman Award, while Olivia McCannon’s 'The Lives of Z' (2025) is being hailed as a future classic of ecopoetry.

This nomination recognises QTE’s growing outreach specifically across Oxfordshire, where it works with schools to challenge perceptions of language learning and highlight its cultural and creative value.

🏆 The Vice-Chancellor’s Awards Showcase takes place on Tuesday 2 June at the Schwarzman Centre and is open to all.

Reflections on residentials: opening doors to Oxford

In between terms, Queen’s is far from quiet. This spring, we welcomed pupils from Lancashire and Cumbria to live and learn in College: from our offer-holders preparing for October, to younger students experiencing a taste of university life for the first time.

Through residentials spanning the humanities and sciences, students explored Oxford through tutorials, taster sessions, and conversations with current undergraduates, all designed to build confidence and a sense of belonging.

“I feel a lot more confident in making an application for Oxford as a result of this residential.”

🎭 Following the widely acclaimed productions of 'Fiddler on the Roof' (2025) and 'Into the Woods' (2024), Eglesfield Musical Society returns this summer with the high-class entertainment of 'Guys & Dolls'.

This 'Guys and Dolls' is fast, playful, and a little bit different. The audience isn’t just watching the action; they’re right there with it – surrounded by swirling dance numbers, overheard schemes, and love stories that sneak up on you. Placed in circular seating in the Queen’s gardens, the garden becomes our Havana, our Times Square, our secret sewer hideout, and the perfect place for romance to bloom. Fast-paced and filled with unique characters, this garden production will be unlike any other theatre experience in Oxford.
